Maurice Benard is a veteran soap star, having portrayed Sonny Corinthos on “General Hospital” for the last three decades. Now, it seems the soap vet might just be branching out into film thanks to his granddaughter.

‘General Hospital’ Star Maurice Benard Shows Appreciation to Female Directors
“General Hospital” star Maurice Benard recently took to Instagram to share an exciting update with fans, thanking female directors in the process.
Benard started off by captioning his new Instagram video, “I really admire female directors, it takes a lot of strength and guts to pursue this career. So, any chance I get, I am right there.”
The twist is that Benard’s five-year-old granddaughter, TT, is actually the director of his new movie gig. The soap star starts off the video by saying, “Alright. Hi. I’m doing a movie right now with a big-time director, we’re trying to figure out right now what kind of scene she wants me to do.”
The camera then pans over to Benard’s granddaughter. TT tells Benard that she’s going to say action, and he needs to, “Oh my god. Why?”
Once TT gives him his cue, Benard deadpans, “Oh my god. Why?”
Fans Are Loving Maurice Benard in His New Movie Gig
As soon as Benard posted the lighthearted video to Instagram, fans soon flooded the comment section with supportive messages.
One fan wrote, “Awwww, TT is a triple threat … she dances, she has cute potential, and she would be great acting just like grandpa … just love her. She’s the cutest ever.”
Another added, “Love this!! She’s a director in the making! And you are too cool!”
A third chimed in, writing, “Thanks for the smile, Mo. I was so looking forward to your performance as she was describing what to do. You nailed it! Bright future for the both of you!”
While the video was clearly all in good fun, fans appreciated seeing a lighter side of the soap star. The sweet interaction with his granddaughter gave followers a glimpse of his family life outside Port Charles and showed why his social media posts continue to resonate with longtime fans.
Maurice Benard Is the Ultimate Family Man
Just like his character Sonny Corinthos, Benard has proven to be the ultimate family man. The 63-year-old has been married to his wife, Paula Smith Benard, since August 1990.
The couple shares four children: Cailey, Heather, Cassidy, and Joshua. They adopted their daughter, Heather, in 2008 when she was 15 years old. Heather is biologically Paula’s younger half-sister. After Paula’s mother died, the couple adopted the teen.
Heather joined the Air Force, and later surprised the soap star on stage in her Air Force uniform when he was on “The Tamron Hall Show” in 2023.
In addition to his four children, the soap star is a grandfather to three: TT, Eloise, and Milo. His oldest daughter, Cailey, is the mother of TT and Milo, both of whom frequently appear on the actor’s Instagram page. Heather is the mother of Eloise.
TT isn’t the only one following in Benard’s footsteps, either. His son, Joshua Benard, starred on “General Hospital” as Adam. Joshua made a couple of appearances as Adam in 2022. However, he joined the “GH” cast on recurring status in September 2023. His storyline continued through February 2024.
While TT may be the one calling the shots behind the camera for now, fans seemed more than happy to see Maurice Benard take direction from his youngest “director.” The playful clip offered another reminder of why the longtime General Hospital star continues to connect so easily with fans on social media.
