GH’s Rory Gibson Hopes That His Character Is Innocent

Fans of “General Hospital” are deeply invested in the Who Shot Drew Cain storyline. The Congressman made himself an enemy of almost everyone living in Port Charles before being shot in the back, so the suspect list is long. Still, a few people have risen to the top of the suspect list, and one of them is Michael Corinthos, played by Rory Gibson.

Rory Gibson recently chatted with Soap Opera Digest about his character’s current plight to prove his innocence.

Rory took over the role of Michael Corinthos in May 2025, and he was thrown right into the action. “They keep me busy over here. I’m having so much fun and there’s so much exciting stuff happening.”

Gibson admits that he hopes his character is indeed innocent. “I feel kind of conflicted about it. On the one hand, Drew has definitely done the most, and I’m sure Michael definitely wants to [see him gone]. But at the same time, it’s almost like, if he did that, then everything that Drew has told Willow about him becomes true. Michael really is just a monster, this terrible person that he’s painted him out to be in her eyes.”

While fans aren’t sure of who actually shot Drew, they do know that Michael was outside of his house around the time that the violence took place. He also had a conversation at the bar with Jacinda on the evening in question. He didn’t realize at the time that she was the escort that had been paid to ply Drew with Ketamine. Those scenes played out before Gibson had assumed the role, so he had Paige Herschell (the actress who plays Jacinda) bring him up to speed.

“I’d done a little bit of research, but I was fortunate enough to actually run into Paige before we had to film anything, before we’d done our rehearsals and stuff in the studio. I was like, ‘Oh, hey, you play Jacinda,’ and she kind of gave me the rundown of what had happened with her character. I thought it was an interesting thing to throw into the mix, to have us kind of get involved, for lack of a better term, in this very sticky situation.”

Michael Is Fighting for His Life With His Kids

While Michael may not be guilty, he realizes that Drew fully intends to set him up to take the fall. While he comes across as calm, cool, and collected, Gibson admits that beneath the surface, his character is a mess.

“Michael is panicked, honestly. How I try to play Michael is that at his core, he’s a relatively composed, stoic [person]. It’s all kind of a shell of a lot of the internal frustration that he kind of constantly has going on. In this moment, he’s panicked because everything’s unsettled. He’s missing Daisy, he’s missing Sasha, so it’s not like everything in his life is perfect by any means. He does have legal custody of his children, and if this gets pinned on him, all of that goes away. Then here’s no way he’s ever getting them back. So, I think he’s in a state of true panic. He’s fighting for survival, essentially,” says the actor.

Who do you think shot Drew? Would Michael risk raising his children to take Drew out?
