On “General Hospital,” Kristina (Kate Mansi) has been accepted to medical school at UCLA, which came out of the blue. Kristina has spoken to her sister, Molly (Kristen Vaganos), and brother, Michael (Rory Gibson), about the opportunity, which has some fans wondering if she is leaving the ABC soap.
Is ‘General Hospital’ Star Kate Mansi Leaving as Kristina?
Kristina’s sudden interest in medical school outside of Port Charles is for a very good reason. Mansi has decided to exit “General Hospital” after three years of playing the role.
The actress shared the news earlier this month in an interview with TV Insider writer Stephanie Sloane via her newsletter, “SoapSteph’s Soap Dish.”
“I’ve made the very difficult decision to leave General Hospital. I have a few new projects that require my full attention, and with my husband [Matt McInnis] currently producing a series filming primarily abroad, I needed the flexibility to travel while continuing to develop and work in Los Angeles,” the “Days of Our Lives” alum expressed.
Mansi has already filmed her final scenes as Kristina. They will air in the next couple of weeks as Kristina says goodbye to Port Charles and her family.
Although a specific date has yet to be revealed, Mansi shared a couple of pictures from her last day on set and insisted she will share more on June 12. The date could be when her final episode as Kristina airs. That would allow Mansi to share more details on her exit and what’s next for her.
Along with playing Kristina, Mansi also directed two episodes of “General Hospital” during her time on the show. One of them focused on Molly’s endometriosis, a condition Mansi also suffers from.
“General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini told TV Insider the door was always open for Mansi to return as Kristina. Valentini’s words and Kristina’s out-of-state medical school storyline have confirmed the character will not be recast at this time.
Before joining “General Hospital”, Mansi was best known for playing Abigail on “Days of Our Lives” off and on for years.
Kate Mansi’s Co-Stars and Fans React to Her Exit News
The comments section of Mansi’s Instagram post teasing her last day on set featured several of her former co-stars, who popped up to show their love as she closes one chapter and begins another.
“Always a sister ❤️,” wrote Vaganos. Kin Shriner (Scott) said, “Good luck Kate,” and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla) declared, “Go girl.”
Jen Ray (Suzanne) stated, “Kate- I enjoyed working with you! Good luck to your new adventures! “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Rebecca Budig shared, “Excited for you ❤️.”
Gibson and Kristian Alfonso (Hope) left red heart emojis, as did “The Young and the Restless” stars Tracey Bregman (Lauren) and Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea).
Fans also shared their thoughts on Mansi’s exit from the ABC soap. “You are so freaking talented and beautiful, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for you. ❤️” said a fan.
Another fan added, “@katemansi You are such a joy to watch! You really made Kristina human. I will miss watching you but, sending you the very best wishes for tour future! Thank you so much for all the memories. ❤🎉🙏.”
“You are so going to be missed! The absolute best Kristina and my most favorite on the show! Best of luck on your next adventure 💕💕,” spilled a different fan.
There’s no question that Mansi will be missed as Kristina on “General Hospital”.
