Popular ‘General Hospital’ Alum Joins ‘The Young and the Restless’: Details

A legendary actor is making a new move, and it’s going to be one epic crossover in the soap world. Roger Howarth is officially joining “The Young and the Restless.” The 56-year-old soap veteran, known for long-running roles on “General Hospital,” “One Life to Live” and “As the World Turns,” has been cast in a new role for a major storyline arc debuting this fall.

Deadline first reported the casting, which was later celebrated by the show’s official Instagram account. Howarth will begin taping in mid-September, with his debut set to air later this year.

From ‘General Hospital’ to a New Chapter

Howarth was last seen on “General Hospital” as Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt, the third character he played during his 11-year run on the ABC soap.

He previously portrayed Franco Baldwin, who was killed in 2021, and Todd Manning, the iconic “One Life to Live” character he brought to Port Charles in 2012.

Austin Gatlin-Holt was written out in 2023, ending Howarth’s run on “GH” and setting the stage for his move to CBS.

Actor Shares Excitement With Fans

The Emmy-winning actor confirmed the news himself, sharing a celebratory Instagram selfie in which he signed the letters “Y” and “R” in American Sign Language.

“Excited and appreciative… I’m a lucky guy…,” he captioned the August 28 post, which quickly drew excitement from fans across the soap community.

Soap Roots Run Deep

Howarth’s career stretches back to the early ’90s. He first appeared on “Loving” and “Guiding Light” before landing the role of Todd Manning on “One Life to Live” in 1992, earning a Daytime Emmy two years later. During one break from “OLTL,” he starred as Paul Ryan on “As the World Turns” from 2003 to 2010, earning another Emmy nomination.

Outside of daytime, he has appeared on “Dawson’s Creek,” “Diagnosis: Murder,” “Prey,” and “The Flash.”

Y&R Is Making Exciting Changes

Howarth isn’t the only new face coming to Genoa City. This week, “Y&R” also announced that Tamara Braun has joined the cast as Sienna Bacall (As per People). Like Howarth, Braun is a daytime staple with memorable roles on “General Hospital,” “Days of Our Lives,” and “All My Children.”

With two daytime icons joining the lineup, “The Young and the Restless” is gearing up for one of its most exciting seasons yet.
