“General Hospital” has finally confirmed what fans have known for months: Nathan isn’t Nathan. The ABC soap dropped the bomb that Nathan is really his never-before-heard-of twin brother, Cassius. Ryan Paevey has opened up about the twist he’s known about from day one of his return.
Ryan Paevey Gets Real About Cassius on ‘General Hospital’
The Hallmark alum confirmed to Soap Opera Digest that playing Cassius, not Nathan, was the reason he returned to “General Hospital” after a seven-year absence.
Paevey was excited to play the new character, who he promises is not as bad as his evil mastermind, Faison (Anders Hove). In fact, Paevey has the perfect way of describing his new alter ego.
“Cassius is basically Nathan turned on his heels. He has to be similar enough to Nathan that it’s feasible, that it’s believable that people were fooled. He looks like Nathan, he kind of sounds like Nathan, the camouflage is viable, so to speak. I mean, we are twins. But there are some differences,” the soap star stated.
“General Hospital” fans will learn more about Cassius and his background in the coming weeks as May sweeps loom. While Paevey couldn’t give any details, he did warn fans to brace for so much crazy stuff coming as Cassius takes matters into his own hands and Port Charles begins to get a clue he might not be Nathan.
The Stakes Have Never Been Higher For Cassius on ‘General Hospital’
Paevey hinted that the Nathan and Cassius twin bombshell is just the beginning of some good old-fashioned soap drama with more twists and turns in the coming weeks. The actor called it a bit of a Grinch story because everyone loves Nathan, and that’s something Cassius has never had before, so he begins to question who he really wants to be.
“Nathan’s upbringing and Cassius’s upbringing were wildly different. Nathan had a family. He grew up to be a good man. He took care of his people. I feel like Cassius, on the other hand, has kind of the little brother syndrome. He did not grow up in a warm and loving family. He’s never really been like loved or appreciated or seen or anything like that,” he expressed.
Fans will learn more about Cassius’ upbringing in the near future as his real feelings for Lulu (Alexa Havins) and his nephew James (Gary James Fuller) begin to conflict with his initial reason for becoming Nathan.
Paevey feels that, at first, being Nathan was a means to an end for Cassius. However, now that he has people he cares about, something shifts in Cassius, making his fear of being discovered even greater.
“He only gets to keep them if the secret holds,” Paevey spilled.
Cassius also must contend with being in bed with Sidwell (Carlo Rotta) and Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). Paevey teased that trying to break free from those guys will be a challenge, like Cassius has never had before, especially now that he has people who really matter to him.
Buckle up, “General Hospital” fans, the Cassius and Nathan twist is going to be one roller coaster ride of a story.
