Alexia Jayy is soaking in a full-circle moment after making history on “The Voice”—and her return home was nothing short of unforgettable.
Fresh off her big win, Jayy was welcomed back by friends, family and supporters who gathered to celebrate her journey from local talent to national star, according to WKRG.
Jayy Was Met with a Giant Welcome When She Returned Home
The emotional homecoming highlighted just how deep her roots in music run.
“I sang my first solo when I was two years old, in church,” Jayy shared, reflecting on where it all began.
That early start laid the foundation for a career that has now taken her to some of the biggest stages in the world.
Among those standout moments was performing alongside Lauryn Hill at the Grammys.
“For Miss Lauryn Hill to want me to be a part of something that she has going is probably the most amazing thing in the world,” Jayy said.
While her talent has captivated millions, those closest to her say they’ve seen it all along. Her mother, Michelle Payne Ford, became emotional reflecting on the journey.
“From the time she started until now, on the stage that she’s on now, and thinking ‘That’s my daughter,’” Ford said.
Her uncle, Leodis Payne, echoed that sentiment, recalling how Jayy’s voice stood out even in her early days performing in a gospel girl group.
“All those girls had a sound that was unique, and music is all about uniqueness,” he said.
Jayy’s Win Was a Milestone
Jayy’s victory marks a major milestone—not just personally, but historically—as she became the first Black woman to win the competition.
For her, the moment was just as much about community as it was about achievement.
“These are all the singers in my family, and they’re celebrating because I won ‘The Voice,’” she said during the homecoming festivities.
Behind the scenes, her success has been powered by dedication and perseverance.
“To perfect what you’re doing you need to stay with it to be great,” Payne added. “She stayed with it and I don’t have to tell you she’s great, she’s great.”
Now, with the trophy in hand, Jayy is focused on what comes next—and she’s not slowing down anytime soon.
“I’m going to keep getting on those big stages, keep working, because this is only the beginning,” she said.
Fans are already getting a taste of that next chapter with her debut single, “Rent Free,” a confident R&B track that showcases both her vocal power and artistic direction.
From singing in church as a toddler to headlining major stages, Jayy’s journey is just getting started.
