Powerhouse singer and former “Voice” coach Jennifer Hudson is excited for all the fun that comes with the holiday season, including the just-announced extended edition of her 2024 Christmas album. But there’s one place you won’t find her: in the kitchen.
On the episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show” airing on November 21, 2025, Hudson shared a kitchen confession that drew audible gasps from her audience and her guest, Hallmark actress Tamera Mowry-Housley.
Jennifer Hudson Admits to Tamera Mowry-Housley She Can’t Cook
During her interview with Mowry-Housley, who hosts Hallmark’s unscripted baking competition “Baked With Love: Holiday,” Hudson admitted she doesn’t like to cook or bake, which stunned Mowry-Housley.
After telling Hudson about how her family, including twin sister Tia Mowry, alternates who hosts Thanksgiving dinner each year, Mowry-Housley said that when she and her husband, Adam Housley, hosted a couple of years ago, they “killed it.”
“We actually love to cook, the both of us,” Mowry-Housley told Hudson. “And we cook everything from scratch. Everything.”
Hudson then interjected, “Now, I can’t cook, Tamera. You know, I can’t do (that).”
When Mowry-Housley’s jaw dropped and the audience began to murmur, Hudson covered her mouth and said, “Sorry, I had to throw that in there.”
“You can’t cook?” Mowry-Housley asked, still stunned. “I don’t know why, but you’re just so soulful. You can’t cook!?”
“Nooooope,” Hudson said, leaning back in her chair as members of the audience started to laugh. “I’m not even gonna lie to you, Tamera.”
Hudson has been known to take some heat for her lack of skills during cooking segments on her show, including a funny moment in April when she tried unsuccessfully to help Tamar Braxton make a cake.

HallmarkShocked by Hudson’s confession about cooking, Mowry-Housley exclaimed, “Oh my goodness! Okay, can you bake?”
The talk show host then gestured as if she was cutting open a package with a scissors and said, “You know, I could cut that little cookie box open.”
The audience let out a loud laugh and Mowry-Housley said, “Oh no! Okay.” Hudson joked, “You should see me, I throw it on the (cookie) sheet for the kids. ‘The cookies are ready!'”
Mowry-Housley then told Hudson she’s invited “any time” to her family’s house for some home cooking. She added that this year, they’re celebrating Thanksgiving at her brother Taj Mowry’s house, but she and her husband are bringing the turkey, ham, garlic mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, yams, and collard greens.
Amazed by how much food they’re bringing to the Thanksgiving potluck, Hudson exclaimed, “That sounds so good. We all trying to come, ain’t we!?”
Mowry-Housley’s “Baked With Love: Holiday” airs Monday nights on Hallmark Channel at 9 p.m. Eastern time and past episodes can be streamed on Hallmark+. “The Jennifer Hudson Show” airs weekdays; check your local listings for times.
