“The Voice” has entered its Knockouts phase, and the competition now includes one of Season 28’s most talked-about updates: the Mic Drop vote. The feature gives viewers the chance to support a contestant who did not win their Knockout round but still delivered a performance worth spotlighting. As the show heads toward the playoffs, fans have a direct role in helping select one artist who will advance.
According to NBC Insider, each coach awards one Mic Drop during the Knockouts to highlight an artist they believe deserves additional attention, even if that singer does not win their matchup. Those nominees then enter a public vote that takes place immediately after the final Knockouts episode.
What the Mic Drop Means for Contestants
In the Knockouts, coaches listen to individual performances and choose one winner to move forward. NBC Insider reported that the new Mic Drop element gives coaches a second opportunity to recognize standout talent. It also gives fans a way to influence the competition earlier than usual.
Once all four coaches select their Mic Drop nominees, the group faces a viewer vote. NBC Insider noted that the Mic Drop winner will be revealed during the Dec. 8 playoff episode. While the vote does not reverse a coach’s original Knockout decision, it can boost an artist’s visibility ahead of the live shows. That momentum can make a difference for contestants who rely heavily on public support as the competition narrows.
How to Cast a Vote
NBC provides two official voting methods for the Mic Drop results:
Vote through ‘The Voice’ Official App.
Viewers can download the app from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with an NBCUniversal profile. After the episode ends, users can open the Mic Drop voting section and choose their preferred artist. NBC Insider reported that the app lets voters change their choice until the voting window closes.
Vote on the NBC website.
Fans who prefer to vote on a computer can visit the voting page linked through NBC.com and log in with the same NBCUniversal account. NBC Insider stated that each email address can submit one vote for the Mic Drop.
Voting Window and Eligibility
Voting opens right after the Knockouts episode and closes early the next morning. NBC Insider stated that the vote for the most recent Knockouts closed at 7 a.m. Eastern time the following day. Voting is open to residents of the United States and Puerto Rico who have an NBCUniversal account.
The Mic Drop winner earns valuable exposure during a high-stakes portion of the season. Even though the vote does not undo eliminations, it provides a meaningful platform for a contestant who resonated with viewers. Fan support can influence how artists are perceived heading into the live shows, which begin Dec. 15, according to NBC Insider.
