As the father of 18 children between four wives, “Sister Wives” star Kody Brown often found himself spread too thin over the years.
As time went on, fans began to notice Kody often spent all his time with his fourth wife, Robyn, and her five children. The other wives and children severely struggled with the dynamic shift, eventually leading to the family’s fracture and complete dissolution.
Today, Kody’s first three wives have left the polygamous family unit and moved on with their lives. Many of the children with the other three wives have incredibly strained relationships with their father.
In a new interview, one of Kody’s daughters spoke up about the difficult family dynamic and how the family unit fell apart once TLC started filming “Sister Wives.”
Kody Brown’s Daughter Mykelti Discusses the Major Shift in the Family Structure
Mykelti Brown Padron is Christine Brown’s second child and Kody Brown’s fifth. In the show’s earliest days, she was often interviewed alongside the older children. Unlike many of her younger siblings, she remembered the family dynamics before filming for TLC.
Now, she’s sharing her own side of the story in an interview with Cults to Consciousness.
“If you watched the show, was this obvious to you?” the official Cults to Consciousness Instagram page shared, featuring a clip from Mykelti’s interview.
“We started filming for ‘Sister Wives’ and it happened around 2010,” Mykelti recalled in the clip. “Robyn started courting Dad, the whole family has to move to Las Vegas, and we had to move in like a secrecy thing. So it was that, you had three major life-changing events compound at once without any of us knowing it at the time.”
The TLC star explained that her father genuinely fell “head over heels in love with Robyn,” but he didn’t understand the implications of his feelings at the time.
Getty“But I mean, when you love somebody, you’re going to go out of your way to do things for them,” Mykelti continued. “But it did cause a shift. My mom got jealous because she just barely gave birth. She was going through life-changing events as well. She was going through post-partum, she had five other kids to take care of in addition to a brand new newborn. All these other moms needed him tons. And it hurt those relationships a lot.”
She went on to say that she believed her own mother, Christine, suffered the most because of the newborn, Truely. While Christine was dealing with post-partum issues and raising the other children, Kody was courting Robyn.
Many Members of the Brown Family Overcame the Challenges
In spite of the challenges, many of the Brown family members are living incredibly happy lives as of 2026. Christine Brown left the polygamous family unit and went on to marry David Woolley. Mykelti and her husband, Tony Padron, live a monogamous lifestyle and have three children of their own.
Kody and Robyn Brown are still happily married and also seem to be pursuing monogamy these days.

“Sister Wives” season 21 is expected to premiere on TLC later this fall.
