Brooke Shields will once more appear in Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart” on Sunday, March 1, to step back into her role as Charlotte Thornton, LJ’s grandmother.
Shields will be joining season 13, episode 9, “Lost and Found Again,” where her character will play a pivotal role in LJ’s growing storyline. In the episode, Charlotte will help heal LJ’s heart as he battles through missing his dad, Jack Thornton, formerly played by Daniel Lissing, who died in season 5 when he heroically saved two fellow Mounties from a landslide that he unfortunately did not recover from.
Brooke Shields as Charlotte Thornton on ‘WCTH’
At the time of Jack’s on-screen demise, his wife, Elizabeth Thornton, was pregnant with LJ, leaving her to raise their son all by herself.
While Jack’s mom, Charlotte, was introduced early on in “WCTH,” she exited the show in season 3 — leaving Elizabeth and LJ to lean on each other after Jack tragically died.
Shields’ character did appear in the season 12 finale, though, when she penned a letter to Elizabeth, telling her that her hometown Cape Fullerton had plenty of LJ’s diabetes medicine available — bridging together her absence and anticipatory return to the “WCTH” storyline.
Charlotte also briefly appeared in the first episode of season 13, where she had an emotional talk with Nathan, giving him her stamp of approval.
Now, as her grandson, LJ, struggles to remember the dad he never met, Charlotte will be right by his side to help him feel a deeper connection to the man he aspires to one day become.
