Jessica Lange Agreed to Return to ‘American Horror Story’ Because of This One Condition

Fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming thirteenth season of “American Horror Story”, but it turns out there was one major factor contributing to whether horror actress Jessica Lange would agree to return and reprise all of her four characters.

Co-creator of the show, Ryan Murphy, chatted to Vogue about it, and noted that Jessica said she would only come back if she would have the chance to sing.

Ryan’s Chat About Jessica’s Return

Speaking about his desire to do the new season, Ryan began by sharing: “I just thought the number 13 was infused with so much stuff in the horror genre, and I wanted to do a greatest hits season.”

Though he further noted how he felt that Jessica had to be a part of the project, saying: “I didn’t know what it was, but I knew that I could only do it with Jessica. So we had dinner … and I pitched her, and she said, ‘Great. I’m in as long as I have a musical number.’

“I think when you have a show like ‘American Horror Story’ that has become so long-running and popular, you go back to the origin story of it. And Jessica, that first season, won every award on Earth.”

Jessica stunned with her performance and took home endless awards including two Emmys for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for “American Horror Story: Murder House”, and another for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in “American Horror Story: Coven”.

She also further won a Golden Globe as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award for her work in “American Horror Story: Murder House”.

Other hit TV shows Jessica has featured in include”Greys Gardens”, “Feud: Bette and Joan” and “The Great Lillian Hall”. Jessica has also starred in many films, most notably including “King Kong”, “The Postman Always Rings Twice”, “Tootsie”, “Sweet Dreams”, “Frances”, “Blue Sky”, “Big Fish” and “Cape Fear”.

“Frances”, “Sweet Dreams”, “Music Box” and “Country” are all shows that Jessica later went on to receive nominations for at the Oscars in the category for “Best Actress”.

About ‘American Horror Story’

“American Horror Story” is a TV show in the horror genre, where each season follows a brand new tale. The characters within the seasons often stay the same but the setting and story they follow switches up. Some past themes followed in the program include a creepy hotel, an asylum, a murder house and a freak show.

Though season 13 of the show is set to be a special one unlike any other, where Ryan Murphy has invited back stars from past seasons who left the show to all come back together for the thirteenth tale. The series will fittingly include thirteen episodes, and icons returning alongside Jessica Lange include Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, and Gabourey Sidibe.

Viewers can look forward to the new season airing on FX and Hulu on September 24. It’s only a little over a month away now, so hang tight!
