Tony Danza & Mario Lopez Team Up for Heartfelt Holiday Film ‘Christmas at The Starlight’

Tony Danza and Mario Lopez are bringing family—and a little holiday magic—to the screen with an exciting new project.

In a PEOPLE exclusive released on Tuesday, April 28, it was revealed that the duo will star in a multi-generational Christmas film titled “Christmas at The Starlight,” set to premiere later this year on Great American Family.

Adding an extra layer of heart to the story, Lopez’s 12-year-old son, Dominic Lopez, will also appear in the film.

What We Know About the Film

The movie centers around a beloved local gathering place and the family ties that keep it alive.

According to the official synopsis, “Christmas at The Starlight” is “set in a close-knit American town” and follows Frank, played by Danza, a legendary song-and-dance man preparing to sell his family’s cherished supper club after 40 years.

As uncertainty looms over the future of the venue, three generations are brought together on an emotional journey that highlights what truly matters—faith, family and the meaning of home.

Lopez, 52, not only stars in the film but also serves as an executive producer. He and his son portray Frank’s son and grandson, making the project feel especially personal.

Lopez Gushed About Working With Danza

“Working with Tony Danza as my father in this story is incredibly special, and having Dominic play my son makes it even more personal,” Lopez said in a statement. “Christmas at The Starlight is about family, honoring where you come from, and recognizing the traditions and people that shape your life. … I’m proud to be part of a movie that celebrates those values in such a heartfelt way.”

That emphasis on legacy is at the core of the film’s message. Bill Abbott, president and CEO of Great American Media, echoed that sentiment in a statement about the project.

“At its heart, this film is about legacy — the lessons passed from father to son, the traditions that anchor families, and the cherished places where memories become part of who we are,” Abbott said. “Bringing Mario and Tony together as father and son, with Dominic continuing that lineage on screen, gives this story a rare authenticity and emotional resonance.”

For Lopez, working alongside his son is becoming something of a tradition.

In 2025, he starred in “The Christmas Spark” for the same network and executive-produced “Chasing Christmas,” which also featured Dominic.

Speaking previously about his son’s growing talent, Lopez shared, “He’s very natural, and he works really hard. I’m impressed.”

Lopez and Danza Have Been Friends for Years

Off-screen, Lopez and Danza have clearly built a genuine friendship.

The two recently reunited while Lopez guest hosted “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” where Danza appeared as a guest. Images from the episode show the pair sharing laughs and even participating in a playful on-air game.

Their camaraderie isn’t new. Lopez has previously shared glimpses of their bond, including a December 2025 post joking, “when your martini comes with a side of Tony Danza,” and another from October capturing what he called “Good vibes, great stories, and even better company… NYC afternoon with my guy Tony D!”

With a mix of real-life connection and on-screen chemistry, “Christmas at The Starlight” is shaping up to be a holiday film rooted in authenticity, warmth and family tradition—just in time to bring audiences together during the most festive season of the year.
