Country Star Dishes on the No ‘Whining,’ Straight-Forward Advice They Got From Keith Urban

Country star Lainey Wilson recently shared some straightforward advice she received from fellow country singer Keith Urban while navigating her demanding touring schedule.

Wilson spoke about the moment during the March 1 episode of the podcast “No Filter with Kate Langbroek.” The singer recalled running into the “American Idol” judge after an especially busy year on the road.

“I ran into him and I was so tired. I had been on the road, I think we played 180-something shows that year,” Wilson said.

She explained that she admitted to Urban her exhaustion when they crossed paths.

“And I saw him and I was telling him, I was just like, ‘I’m tired,’” Wilson said.

Urban responded with a short but memorable line.

“And he was like, ‘No whining on the yacht,’” Wilson said. “And I was like, ‘Keith, you better get up out my face.’”

Wilson described the exchange as a humorous but helpful reminder to keep perspective while working in the music industry.

Keith Urban Encouraged Lainey Wilson to Maintain Balance

Wilson said Urban has offered more thoughtful advice as her career has continued to grow.

The two artists previously collaborated on Urban’s song “Go Home W U,” and Wilson said Urban recently shared insight about maintaining balance while managing success.

“He told me not long ago, it’s better to maintain balance than always be trying to achieve it,” Wilson said.

Wilson explained how she interpreted Urban’s message.

“So to me that means, figure out what works for you. Have work-life balance and don’t lose that,” Wilson said. “Because once you do and you’re kind of lopsided, then it’s hard to get back.”

Urban has also publicly praised Wilson’s talent in interviews.

“I love Lainey’s voice; to hear her sing — you just know who she is,” Urban said in an interview with Inked Magazine. “She can make herself at home anywhere, and that’s why people love her.”

Urban added that Wilson brings confidence to her performances.

“She’s got swagger for days,” Urban said.

Miranda Lambert Also Offered Career Advice to Lainey Wilson

Wilson has also received advice from other artists in the country music industry, including Miranda Lambert.

During an appearance on the podcast “Biscuits & Jam” with host Sid Evans, Wilson shared how Lambert helped her during a particularly busy year.

“This was also the year that I was just crazy busy. I think that year I slept in my bed 15 nights,” Wilson said.

Lambert invited Wilson to spend time at her farm in Tennessee so she could rest.

“I remember Miranda calling me and being like… ‘I want you to come out to my farm where there’s hardly any cell phone service, and I want you to take a nap and we’re gonna feed you,’” Wilson said.

Wilson accepted the invitation and ended up sleeping for more than half a day.

“I slept for 13 hours,” Wilson said.

Lambert and her husband eventually checked on her.

“They had to go knock on the door. They’re like, ‘Is she alive?’” Wilson said.

Wilson later explained that the visit also inspired the song “Good Horses,” which appeared on her 2024 album “Whirlwind.”

Wilson has continued collaborating with other country stars as well. In May, she teamed up with Lambert and Reba McEntire for the song “Trailblazer.”

Reflecting on her friendship with Lambert, Wilson said the two artists share many interests.

“We have so much in common,” Wilson said. “Especially our love for the Western way of life.”

“Our love for coming home and planting our feet and filling our cups back up so we can go back out and pour ’em out,” Wilson said.

    • You sound angry, or jealous. You can imagine, but not know, what is involved in someone else’s life unless you live it. Maybe you think their lavish lifestyle is great but missing sleeping in your own bed is normal. They make a lot of money but they also have to pay a lot of people. She’s probably very grateful for being paid for what she loves to do but everyone gets tired but not everyone has what they say published for all to know.
