As “American Idol” fans wait to hear whether or not ABC will bring the show back for Season 25 in 2027, Ryan Seacrest and the Season 24 judges — Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie — are weighing in. Nothing is guaranteed, but they definitely seem optimistic about things. Get all the details in our “American Idol” spoilers below.
Will ‘American Idol’ Return For Season 25?
As of right now, ABC has not confirmed if the hit singing competition would return for its 25th season. USA Today talked with Ryan and the judges regarding this, and Richie had a familiar response about the possible return in 2027.
Lionel said, “If you all get together and vote. Just vote Luke, Carrie, Lionel, Ryan. Send your votes to ABC and say, ‘We cannot watch this show without those four people.'”
While Seacrest has been hosting the show since the first season, which crowned Kelly Clarkson as the OG “American Idol” winner in 2002, he still doesn’t have a say in the future of the show. However, he did have a very valid point.
Seacrest said, “I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be a Season 25 of ‘American Idol.’ They haven’t told me that’s official yet, but that would be strange if we didn’t get to 25 and stopped at 24. So I would be hopeful that it comes.”
Auditions Are Open
While there hasn’t been confirmation from ABC, the show’s Instagram account did make a huge announcement that makes it seem like the show is continuing on to Season 25.
The official Instagram account shared that auditions are now open for you to become the next Idol champion. So, while the show hasn’t officially been picked up yet, they seem to be holding auditions for what would be Season 25. That makes me think it’s almost a guarantee to be back.
Will Ryan & the Judges Be Back?
Let’s be honest, if “American Idol” does come back in 2027, then it’s almost a guarantee that Ryan will be back as host. Can they really have this show without him as the host? I don’t believe so.
As for the judges, from Lionel’s statement above, it definitely seems like he’d be back if asked.
Would Carrie come back for her third season? It seems like she might be interested, as she said she had more fun during her second year on the show as a judge.
Underwood said, “I feel like [in] my first season I was very much trying to find my place and figure out my footing as a judge. This season was a lot more fun because I felt a lot more comfortable. We’ll just see what happens after that. [The show has] been a blessing in my life.”
“American Idol” Season 24 was the ninth season for both Lionel and Luke, as they both came on board back in 2018 when the show moved from FOX to ABC. Will Luke be back?
Bryan said, “Ten’s a good, nice, round number.” Yes, it is, but does that mean he’ll be returning? He didn’t give out any information, but said, “We sit down and talk it out every year.”
He added, “It’s really special to have nine years under my belt, and I felt like I’ve learned so much about the American dream and how kids chase it and their ups and downs and struggles. But I’m honored to be there, and it’s been a great year.”
