Jax Taylor is speaking out after his estranged wife, Brittany Cartwright, obtained a temporary restraining order against him.
Taylor, 47, addressed the situation on his Instagram Stories Friday, Aug. 28, acknowledging mistakes from a difficult period in his life while disputing Cartwright’s allegations.
“I made a lot of mistakes and behaved in ways during that period of my life that I’m truly ashamed of and regret and take full responsibility for,” Taylor wrote. “The person I was in 2024, during the darkest time of my life and at the height of my addiction, is not the person I am today.”
Taylor Says He’s Sober
The Bravo star said he has been working on his sobriety and mental health.
“I got help, went to treatment, and today I’m 1 year and 9 months sober,” he continued. “I’ve remained committed to treatment and therapy, working on myself and changing my life.”
His statement came one day after Cartwright, 37, filed for a domestic violence temporary restraining order in Los Angeles Superior Court. A judge granted the request and ordered Taylor to stay 100 yards away from Cartwright.
According to court documents, Cartwright alleged that Taylor had engaged in a pattern of abusive behavior during their relationship, including what she described as coercive control, financial abuse, emotional and psychological abuse, gaslighting and physical violence, according to PEOPLE.
She also alleged that Taylor threatened her and physically attacked her. Cartwright said she remains in “genuine fear of my safety and my peace of mind.”
Cartwright and Taylor began dating in 2015, married in 2019 and separated in 2024. They share a 5-year-old son, Cruz.
Cartwright requested sole custody of Cruz as part of the restraining order. The judge did not grant that request at this time, with custody matters set to be addressed at a future hearing.
Taylor Says He Will Follow the Order
Taylor pushed back against the timing and substance of the allegations in his Instagram statement.
“I was shocked to see claims about alleged incidents from over two years ago being brought up now, especially when there have never been any police reports filed or criminal charges brought against me related to them,” he wrote.
“There are allegations being made that I strongly dispute,” Taylor added. “The full story, context and evidence will be addressed where it belongs – in court.”
Taylor also said he intends to follow the court’s orders while continuing to focus on his personal life.
“I will respect the court’s orders and the legal process,” he wrote. “My focus continues to be my sobriety, working on my mental health, being the best father I can be to Cruz and moving forward in a healthy and responsible way.”
The former couple’s divorce has remained unresolved since their separation. Their legal battle has played out alongside their lives on reality television, with both appearing on Bravo’s “The Valley.”
Taylor concluded his statement by emphasizing the changes he says he has made since 2024.
“All I can do is own my mistakes, stay committed to the changes I’ve made and make sure the choices I make today reflect the man and father I want to be,” he wrote.
The temporary restraining order is now part of the couple’s ongoing legal proceedings, with further decisions regarding the allegations and custody expected to be addressed in court.
