Kathy Griffin Details Love Affair With Much Younger Man
Writing in an essay that was published by the Cut, Griffin revealed the existence of the relationship and how it has helped her move past her recent divorce.
“I accidentally fell in love with a 23-year-old,” she wrote. “Because of his age, he didn’t have the usual sexism, misogyny, and biases that guys my age tend to have,”
While she understands that many people may feel that the age gap between the two was uncomfortable, she defended how close the pair became and that they had genuine affection for each other.
“It was nice to know that my heart could still feel like that in my 60s, and it was nice to have the universe show me a guy that I really got a kick out of but also respected,” she shared. “I thought he was smart. I thought he could roll in different worlds. It sounds cliché, and maybe he was an old soul, but I don’t know, we just clicked.”
She continued, “I really was in love with him. He touched my heart.”
The actress went on to say that she was aware that the relationship would not last due to the differences in their respective ages. Despite the fact that he told her he was happy to be with her and didn’t want to start a family, she eventually ended the relationship so that he would not have to deal with her “baggage.”
“We gave it a shot anyway, and we both went with it for a while, and then it came time to go,” she wrote. “He made me feel sexy and special and smart and funny. It had a lot of the elements of what I think would’ve made a real, lasting relationship.”

Although this is her first relationship with such a large age gap, Griffin also admitted that she sees herself as a “cougar.” This is because she hasn’t dated anyone her own age since she was in her 30s and provides men who are younger than her.
“I’ve only been asked out by younger guys,” she explained. “I kind of am a cougar, which to me just means you have the freedom to choose the person that you want as opposed to the age bracket that society tells you is the only option for you.”
Griffin, who had previously demonstrated her confidence in her body by sharing bikini pictures, said that she feels men of all ages are still attracted to her. She also noted that she is always honest about her age when approached and doesn’t try to hide how old she is.
“I put 64 on my profile, and when I went on those dates, every one of them was at least 20 years younger,” she said. “What am I gonna do? I can’t let this bangin’ body go to waste.”
