Hannah Brown Talks Expanding Her Writing Career, Publishing New Short Story (EXCLUSIVE)

The Bachelorette” star Hannah Brown is a woman of many talents. While most fans know her for her impressive reality television career, she’s branching out and trying new things.

This year, she published a short story, partially inspired by her time on “Dancing With the Stars.” Hannah Brown hopes readers will resonate with “Lessons in Love and Ballroom” and understand the power of choice.

Hannah Brown Uses Her Voice to Write About Important Issues

In 2021, Hannah Brown published her memoir and debut book, “God Bless This Mess: Learning to Live and Love Through Life’s Best (and Worst) Moments.” After performing exceptionally well, she went on to explore the world of fiction.

From there, the “Dancing With the Stars” champion went on to publish romance novels, “Mistakes We Never Made,” “The Four Engagement Rings of Sybil Rain,” and “Reasons to Be Loved By You.”

While Hannah Brown isn’t always working on a novel, she never stops creating. While speaking to EntertainmentNow editor Lauren Weigle, she dove into the writing process for her new short story, “Lessons in Love and Ballroom.”

“This short story is about a dancer who competed at very high levels on a competition dance show and had some injuries,” Hannah shared with us.

She revealed that the main character, Isabel, finds herself back at home, but isn’t done striving to make the most out of life and her career. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Hannah Brown novel without a love interest for Isabel. Through the budding romance, Hannah also explores the importance of birth control advocacy.

The Writer Emphasizes Authenticity in Her Work

From “Dancing With the Stars” season 28 to the recent DWTS convention, Hannah Brown has spent quite a bit of time with professional dancers. Authenticity is of the utmost importance to the author, which also inspired the themes of family planning and birth control.

“Everything that I’ve put out so far as an author, it’s really important to have authentic conversations,” the 31-year-old explained. The author noticed that birth control isn’t regularly talked about in romance novels and she wanted to change that, especially since that’s a very normal topic of conversation among women.

“I wanted to make that normalized and for other women to see real conversations in fiction,” Hannah Brown continued. “It was fun to be able to use Isabel’s situation to show real authentic conversation with her friend that she has about planning for her life and conversations she’s had with her doctor about what’s right for her.”

While crafting the story, the author wanted to emphasize the power of choice. She had Isabel explore her birth control options and ultimately decide on a LARC, a long-acting reversible contraceptive.

“Just being able to implant that into this story, I think, was really important,” Hannah told us. “I’m glad and honored to be able to show that it is important to have those conversations when we’re talking about romance and life and love and big moments. So it was cool to be able to do that with Isabel and all that she’s going through.”

Brown has collaborated with Organon, maker of NEXPLANON®,  to help women to know their birth control options. Her short story is now available at nexplanon.com/hannahbrown
