Robert Irwin, the “Dancing With the Stars” season 34 champion, wants to keep the family tradition alive. This time, by getting his mom, Terri Irwin, on the dance floor. The 22-year-old wildlife conservationist has even gone so far as to start a petition to persuade Terri to join the ABC ballroom competition, joking that it’s only fair she brings her “dancing genes” to the show after he and sister Bindi both won trophies without prior experience.
Keep It In the Family
Irwin, the current Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy winner, talked with The Hollywood Reporter, telling them it seems like the logical thing is to have their mom take her shot at the dance floor next.
“Listen, the petition to have my mom on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ has begun, and I started it,” Robert said. “I started this season, and she is firmly like, ‘Nope, I’m not doing it. That’s not for me.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I’m gonna wear you down.’ So let’s wear her down and get her on there, because I think she would be great.”
Both Robert and Bindi went on the show and won their respective season, yet neither of them had any dance experience going into it. Robert seems to think there might be a theory behind that.
“We were able to dance and do this show, so that’s got to come from somewhere, right?“ he added. “Those dancing genes, I’m pretty darn sure they didn’t come from my dad. I mean, he was a very athletic human being, but [had] no rhythm. So, I mean, I guess [we got them from my] mom. It must be. I mean, it’s only fair, right? She’s got to do it.”
‘Dancing With the Stars’ Partner Agrees
If Terri does join the “DWTS” cast for season 35, it wouldn’t be the first time she made her way to the dance floor. She made an emotional appearance during “Dedication Night” on “Dancing With the Stars” season 34. Robert’s mom briefly joined him on the dance floor at the end of his routine.
After winning the Mirrorball Trophy with his pro partner Witney Carson, Terri wrote on Instagram, “Your passion, dedication, hard work, and kind heart got you to this point. A night you will remember forever. Thank you to everyone who supported Robert through this journey, and made us realize that even a zookeeper can learn to dance.”
After his win, Robert told E! News that he wanted to keep this new family tradition going. He said, “More of the Irwin-Carson family members have got to keep dancing.”
It seems like Terri has the support of Witney, who added, “I told Terri, she needs to.”
Not Getting Rid of Robert
From the sounds of it, “Dancing With the Stars” producers should add Terri Irwin to the season 35 cast because her son is going to be there anyway.
Robert has vowed to “stay within” the “DWTS” family, even if Terri isn’t a contestant next season.
He joked, “I mean, that poor crew, I’m going to be part of the furniture now. Like, they’re not getting rid of me. Next season, I’m like, I’m in, just tell me, I’ll do it all over again. Like, put me in, coach. I’m here. Let’s go!”
Would you like to see Terri Irwin compete on “Dancing With the Stars” season 35?

My favorite show I been watching it since it started and I will continue to watch it hope they have new people for season 35
Love hearing that the Irwin family is going to make dancing a part of their lives now. They seem to get so much joy from it, and they give it back tenfold when they perform.
