‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ Designer Dishes on Highly Coveted Item From the Film

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” explores the competitive world of high fashion. For weeks leading up to the premiere, fans were treated to exciting teasers and stunning red carpet looks.

The first movie produced several quotable lines and started plenty of pop culture trends. Now that the sequel is in theaters, fans are once again latching onto their favorite looks.

In a new interview, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” costume designer gives some insight on the clothing item she thinks could be the next big trend.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Costume Designer Admits It’s All Up to the Fans

Molly Rogers worked as a costume assistant to Patricia Field in the first film. Now, she’s a costume designer for the sequel.

In a new interview, Rogers noted that she never wanted to try to upstage the iconic wardrobe from the first movie. She knew she needed to give it an entirely new life of its own. But at the end of the day, moviegoers decide which pieces make it into the pop culture zeitgeist.

“We can only try to meet it. And I feel like we satisfy appetites,” Rogers told PEOPLE.

According to Rogers, she isn’t quite sure that there will be a singular standout article of clothing in the sequel, unlike the Chanel boots and cerulean sweater from the first movie. But if she had to guess, the Dries Van Noten tassel jacket belonging to Meryl Streep’s character could be the one.

“I feel like the audience decides what they’re going to latch on to, because when we’re in the fitting, we’re just trying to all put together the best possible outfit for the scene that we can,” Rogers continued.

Meryl Streep wears the tassel jacket when her character Miranda Priestly has a lunch meeting with B.J. Novak’s character and other consultants.

“The dialogue and everything has so much to do with it,” the designer added, sharing an anecdote from the first movie. “That cerulean sweater monologue, it wasn’t cerulean in the original script. It was just blue. We just sent a shopper out, and they ran around and got blue sweaters for that fitting. It became this monster that I think almost everybody I know can quote.”

Style Wasn’t Reserved for the Main Cast

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci round off the main cast of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” However, they weren’t the only well-dressed actors in the film. Lady Gaga also appeared in the film, sporting the most impeccable fashion at all times.

In a recent interview, Meryl Streep jokingly took credit for getting the pop singer on board with the film.

“That turned out well,” Streep confessed on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” “It was written there would be a pop star that would sing live on a runway in Milan. We were going to have this big show there. I thought, well why don’t we get Gaga, cause she’s so great, and she loves fashion, and… I had her number.”

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” is now playing in theaters.
