Lupita Nyong’o approached “The Odyssey” press tour with the same creativity she brings to her performances.
The Academy Award winner, who plays Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra in Christopher Nolan’s film, worked with stylist Micaela Erlanger to create outfits that reflected strength, structure and sensuality.
Here are the looks that best captured Lupita’s vision.
A Golden Goddess in Nicholas Oakwell Couture
GettyLupita looked regal at the New York premiere in a gold Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown.
The dress featured a structured corseted bodice, draped skirt, floral lace details and a high leg slit. A five-strand Sabyasachi pearl choker with a polki diamond added to the royal effect.
“I wanted to feel radiant and powerful, and hopefully capture a timelessness,” Lupita told Vogue.
She completed the theme with a blue and gold clutch designed to resemble a copy of Homer’s “The Odyssey.”
Royal Red Chanel in Paris
GettyFor the Paris premiere, Lupita selected a beaded coral-red Chanel gown designed by Matthieu Blazy.
The sheer dress featured intricate floral embroidery and offered an elevated interpretation of the naked-dress trend.
Her makeup artist, Nick Barose, drew inspiration from Eartha Kitt, who played Helen of Troy in a 1950 stage production in Paris. A sharp feline eye referenced Kitt’s famous Catwoman role.
Hairstylist Vernon François completed the look with an elegant “loop ’fro.”
Crystal Christian Cowan in London
GettyLupita embraced a glamorous sheer moment for the London world premiere.
Her Christian Cowan column gown featured crystal embellishments that covered the transparent fabric and reflected the light as she walked the carpet.
She paired the dress with sparkling Garatti jewelry, a glossy plum lip, smoked winged eyeliner and gold highlighter.
The understated silhouette allowed the crystals and beauty look to create the drama.
Burgundy Armani Privé by the Eiffel Tower
GettyLupita continued her Paris fashion streak in a sparkling burgundy Giorgio Armani Privé gown.
The fitted mermaid silhouette created a timeless red carpet shape, while the rich color brought out the berry tones in her lipstick.
She added dangling Hearts on Fire earrings made from white and yellow gold.
Lupita shared photos and videos of the look in front of the Eiffel Tower, captioning the post, “C’est si bon in Paris.”
Black and White Chanel for Daytime
GettyNot every standout look required a floor-length evening gown.
At the London photocall, Lupita wore a black and white Chanel dress with a plunging neckline, dropped waist and high slit.
She coordinated the design with ivory cap-toe pumps, black Chanel sunglasses and a glossy black manicure. Tasaki jewelry added a subtle touch of sparkle.
The outfit balanced Chanel’s timeless codes with Lupita’s playful approach to styling.
Feathered LaPointe in New York
Lupita began the press tour with texture in a custom dove-gray LaPointe ensemble.
The monochromatic look included wide-leg trousers and an oversized coat trimmed with the brand’s signature feathers. She completed it with gray Jimmy Choo heels and a snakeskin Brahmin handbag.
