Brendan Penny Remembers ‘Cry-Laughing’ Moments With Late Co-Star on Hallmark Set

Brendan Penny has starred in many Hallmark projects in the past decade. His portrayal of Kevin O’Brien across all six seasons of “Chesapeake Shores” is a role that stands out not just to fans but to Penny as well. Working with Treat Williams, who played his dad, Mick O’Brien, is one of the highlights of “Chesapeake Shores” he’ll always cherish.

“He was great, and he was really, really kind, and we had a lot of fun,” Penny told the “Deck the Hallmark” podcast. “Him and I were quite close. We would always be in each other’s hotel rooms, playing guitar, singing, messing around. Just like, being dudes, being idiots, go on hikes together, go to restaurants.”

“He’d always get me to make him laugh, which was super fun, because I could get him cry-laughing,” Penny added. “And it was really good.”

However, while they had great fun off-set, Penny also remembers what it was like to work with the veteran actor on the show.

Brendan Penny Remembers Treat Williams’ Effortless Talent

“There’s so many amazing qualities about Treat. First off, his talent, it’s effortless. In his delivery and his connection,” Penny said, visibly getting emotional. “It’s kind of tough still, to talk about Treat, to be honest.”

Williams died after a motorcycle accident on June 12, 2023, near his home in Vermont. Penny expressed disbelief that Williams’ death was caused by such a tragic accident.

“It’s tough, because yeah, you would never think that he would have had an accident like that, because he was so insane with his being a pilot and all that stuff,” he continued. “But yeah, he was great, and he was just very talented.”

Decade Later, Hallmark Favorite Still Can’t Believe They Keep Calling

It’s been more than ten years since Penny starred in his first Hallmark film, “‘Tis the Season for Love.” Despite having starred in approximately two dozen Hallmark projects since then, he still feels some surprise every time they call him.

“I’m always like, ‘Well, they got to be sick of me by now.’ Audience must be like, ‘All right, get this guy out, let’s get a new guy in,'” “The More the Merrier” star said.

Fortunately for Penny, Hallmark fans aren’t tired of him and are eager to see what film he’ll star in next.

When it comes to working in Hallmark films, Penny knows that “the ball’s in their court,” but he’s always happy when they do call.

“I love working for Hallmark,” he said. “They’ve been so kind to me, and they treat you so incredibly well. It really is — I’m sure you’ve heard the word “family” a lot. That’s how they treat you, and I would love to continue working for them.”

  3. Oh how I miss Trent Williams.. He was so great. and to Brandon Penny. Sure hope he keeps working with Hallmark. He too, is great… I don’t think, that I have ever not liked a movie he has been in. Keep up the good work.. Thank you Hallmark for reminding of the sudden and extremely sadden time with the loss of Treat to his fans that watched Chesapeake Bay.
