While Hallmark fans continue to watch the “Paris Is Always a Good Idea” story unfold, many were likely surprised by a recent development.
Viewers of the new six-episode series that airs Thursdays on Hallmark+ will be able to tell you that Lacey Chabert stars as Chelsea Martin, a professional woman who works at a nonprofit and travels to Europe with her former rival Jason Knightly (played by Scott Michael Foster) while aiming to bring in a large donation. During Chelsea’s travels, she ends up on an unexpected side-quest that’s prompted by a message from her late mother. This sees Chelsea spending time in France, Spain and Italy as she revisits her past romances.
Unsurprisingly, Chelsea faces a few challenges along the way. Surprisingly, the story just took a turn that was totally unexpected.
Lacey Discussed the Story’s ‘Mystery’
Hallmark“Paris Is Always a Good Idea” has successfully kept viewers on their toes thanks to the fact that the story just threw in “a shocking wedding twist,” according to Us Weekly.
The series started off by leading those who were watching to believe that the first three episodes involved Chelsea recording herself opening up about her romantic past and eventual love life. On top of that, it seemed like she was making the voice message on the day that she got married, and appeared to be addressing Knightly, perhaps the man who she ends up with when the story wraps up.

Now, fans have been left wondering if we’ve been wrong all along. That’s due to the fact that the fourth episode in the series which started streaming on Thursday, August 13, seriously changed things up. It turns out that Chelsea may not be recording her message on her wedding day with Knightly after all. And what about the further fact that the wedding in question was being held at the castle of Chelsea’s former love, Marco? Us Weekly points out that this “further confused viewers thinking they knew where the series was heading.”
“Is she getting married? Who is it to? It doesn’t seem like it’s Knightly at this point,” Chabert said while addressing the storyline during a chat with Us Weekly. “That was one of my favorite parts about the script that left me guessing — and I had read the book.”
Noting that she’s excited for viewers to experience “a little bit of a mystery” while watching the series, Chabert continued by saying, “Even though we had six episodes and it was so nice to have all of that extra time, it’s still only six episodes. It could have even been longer. So to wrap up everyone’s story line, I think it’s a really satisfying ending because it really does wrap up and the story lines come full circle in a way that I think our audience will love.”
Lacey Says the Story Had to Be Changed from the Book
HallmarkWhen it comes to the changes that were made to “Paris Is Always a Good Idea” in order to adapt it from the story originally told in the novel of the same name by Jenn McKinlay, Chabert told Us Weekly, “I can’t answer for the book fans, but I do think they will be happy with this adaptation.”
Explaining that there were “some changes that had to be made in the adaptation,” Chabert added, “But I think it’s such a rich story. The characters that people fell in love with in the book are represented so well in this.”
