“The Golden Girls” recently celebrated their 40th anniversary in September 2025. In November of that same year, a 20/20 special on ABC titled “The Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship” was released for fans to relish the sitcom’s iconic legacy.

The special was one hour long and included a walk down memory lane with an array of interviews from cast members, behind-the-scenes bits of unseen footage, as well as insights from fans and celebrity figures, including Kelly Ripa, Mario Lopez, Laverne Cox and more.

During its seven years of releasing new seasons between 1985 and 1992, “The Golden Girls” gained an incredible reputation among viewers. In a time when young adults were primarily highlighted in film and television, “The Golden Girls” helped to break that mold with its undeniable way of creating laughter and relatability.

Over the course of its airtime, “The Golden Girls” won many awards, including 11 Emmy Awards, two of which were for Outstanding Comedy Series. Among several other prestigious awards, the show also earned four Golden Globes. It was even ranked 18 on Variety’s 100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.

    • Frankly, I’m sick of hearing the song when the show starts. This has been going on for years after the Holidays. It was a good series, but I’m sick of it. How many times do we have to watch repeat episodes from the days when the show started? Great Actors, for sure…..just tired of. I switch to a different channel the minute I hear the music.

  1. I’m I’m soooooo sick of seeing this show on from 10PM at night. By this time I can recite the shows word for word. Please find something else to air that isn’t so old. Gilmore Girls and the Angela Lansbury mystery show are wearing thin already. I pay a fortune for cable just to have the Hallmark channel and I’m over 75 on a fixed income. I’d rather you dig in the vaults and find a bunch of older Hallmark movies than watch what you are airing now.

  2. When something is overdone, it is overdone !!!!!!
The Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote, Matlock, and couple of others are definitely overdone.
You are Hallmark after all and I’m quite positive that you have other programs in your closet to
put on programming to keep your audience faithful.
Thank you hopefully for your attention to my plea and I know I am not the only one. 🙏🙏🦋

  3. I can’t watch. It’s soooo tired and played to death. You have a warehouse bulging with great movies. I love the Christmas season for the extended play of movies night and day. Going back to the Golden Girls is like going from a cruise ship buffet to bread and water.

  4. It’s been year after year for way too many years….i can right the dialog on every show. It’s enough already. Put something else on. They’re great actresses, but it’s time to move on.

  6. I totally disagree with you, I love the Golden Girls and I don’t find them disgusting. I can’t get back into the Gilmore Girls, however. Would love to see maybe some Cheers or Friends, that would be a refreshing change.

    • That show is disgusting…a tramp/whore, a mean old woman, a nasty/snarky woman who constantly picks on the only kind woman! If you want your remarks to actually count, subscribe to the Hallmark newsletter! At least Hallmark will actually see your remarks!

  7. Please, please, please, find some new sitcoms to air. Or better yet, air more movies. I change the channel when Golden Girls comes on. They are so overdone. Why can’t you at least air a 10pm movie weekdays.
I also don’t watch Matlock, Diagnosis Murder or Murder She Wrote on the Mystery Channel. The Waltons was good in it’s time but it’s also been overdone. It’s time for those show to have a res from Hallmark channels.
