Carter Oosterhouse became a fan-favorite during his time on “Trading Spaces” before joining HGTV. The Michigan native appeared on shows such as “Carter Can”, “Red Hot & Green”, and “Million Dollar Rooms”.
However, since “Million Dollar Rooms” wrapped in 2018, fans have not been given an update on what Oosterhouse has been up to.
Who Is Carter Oosterhouse?
Oosterhouse’s passion for carpentry began at a young age. At just 10 years old, he began an apprenticeship with his carpenter neighbor.
“It started out as a summer job in the town I grew up in, Traverse City, Michigan. It was just something to do to make some money,” he told Sierra Club in 2013. “My two older brothers taught me, and a neighbor took me as his apprentice. I would have never guessed that what started as a summer job would take me so far.”
He landed a job as a carpenter during season 4 of TLC’s “Trading Spaces” and became an instant fan-favorite.
“I wanted to produce and get into that scope of things and then lo and behold, look what gets me in front of the camera,” he explained to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

In addition to his carpentry skills, Oosterhouse has made a living off his good looks. Throughout his modeling career, the HGTV alum has been featured in print campaigns for brands like Nivea, Lincoln, and Miller Light. He has also appeared in television advertisements for Bud Light, Treasure Island in Las Vegas, Gillette, and Rooms To Go.
He was later landed a place in People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue in 2003.
In the years since his HGTV exit, Oosterhouse has been hosting the ABC reality show “The Great Christmas Light Fight” with fellow HGTV star Taniya Nayak.
Is Carter Oosterhouse Married?
Oosterhouse has been married to actress Amy Smart since September 2011.
“We literally met in a garden. Through a nonprofit, we’d been planting school gardens in L.A., and we were paired on one of those projects,” he told Sierra Club. “Our wedding was supergreen. We composted as much as possible. We had 220 guests and just one bag of trash.”
The couple shares one daughter, whom they welcomed via surrogate in December 2016.
