Joanna Gaines Shares Jaw-Dropping ‘Before’ Pics of Her Family’s Home — ‘Favorite Fixer Upper of All Time’

Joanna Gaines is giving an inside look at her latest kitchen renovation project and feeling a bit nostalgic, too. The former HGTV star posted throwback photos of their family farmhouse before it was renovated, with three young kids seen sitting on a crumbled step.

Joanna Gaines Shares Photo of Family Farmhouse in 2012

On May 12, Gaines took to Instagram to share a couple of photos from their farmhouse when they bought it.

“The farmhouse in 2012,” she wrote in the caption. “My favorite fixer upper of all time 🥹✨.”

Fans lit up the comments section to share how much they love seeing how it all started.

“How rewarding it must feel to have restored it and made it what it is today,” one fan wrote.

Another person noted, “This is so sweet, what a beautiful story it tells!”

“Days gone by! Y’all have really given it an amazing transformation,” another fan shared.

“Wow! I don’t think I had ever seen it when you first got it,” one fan commented. “And I have followed you guys from the beginning.”

Others pointed out how small the kids are in the photo. “Awww your babies were just little babies sitting there on the stoop! They are so cute!” one fan noted. “Your house and property are beautiful, you and Chip have created such a special place.”

“It’s the best fixer upper! Cant wait to see the new kitchen,” another fan shared.

In a 2019 Magnolia blog post, Gaines shared an inside tour of their farmhouse, reminiscing about how it looked when they first moved in.

“A lot of life has unfolded under our roof in the six years we’ve called the farmhouse home,” she wrote. “Recently, I caught myself looking around and realizing just how much the spaces we inhabit have evolved over the years, right alongside our family.”

She noted, “When we first moved into the farmhouse, a lot of our furniture and decor were display pieces that I pulled from our Little Shop on Bosque, or items that Chip and I had collected early in our marriage — and because time and money were all scarce, we filled the farmhouse with what we already had.”

Gaines explained that her design choices for the home were “a balancing act of function and style.”

“Because we live in a farmhouse, our home will always have that foundational aesthetic — so whenever I feel like a space could use a change, I’m intentional about making choices that not only support the needs and interests of our family in that season, but that also reflect my evolving design style,” she added.

Joanna Gaines Shares Kitchen Renovation Update

Gaines is currently renovating their kitchen and, despite the construction creating numerous challenges, she explained that she’s being “stubborn” about it.

“Living through the farm renovation is building character, but getting a front-row seat to it all coming together is my favorite part,” she shared in the caption of her May 11 Instagram post. “After almost 15 years, my kitchen is getting a whole new look✨.”

In the video, she gave a peek at the kitchen progress so far, explaining, “I’m trying to do this renovation in pieces.”

She continued, “I am stubborn in that I refuse to move out, the kids have two weeks left of school.”

The Magnolia empire owner shared her plans to have the shiplap painted “a creamier white” and showed the backsplash being removed. She also highlighted a beautiful hutch and an “old warehouse window” that was installed.
