Beloved interior designer and media personality Nate Berkus is staging his TV return, with a new home design series in the works. In August 2026, casting calls began for a “once-in-a-life competition” with the HGTV alum, who will mentor up-and-coming designers.
Though it’s not clear yet where the show will air, Berkus returned to HGTV in March as a design judge on the competition series “Bachelor Mansion Takeover” and the new series is being developed for a “major cable network.” Here’s what we know about the new series he’s developing…
One Lucky Designer Will Win Ongoing Mentorship From Nate Berkus
According to recent posts from Rebecca Rosichan, a casting director for networks including HGTV, ABC and Netflix, Berkus’ new show is being developed for a “major cable network” under the title “Beyond the Feed.” In an August 19 post, she wrote that the goal is to help “home and decor content creators” who’ve built strong followings on social media to “take the leap from social media to real world interior design!!”
“If styling spaces is your obsession and you dream of transforming your passion into a profession,” she wrote, “now is your chance to take your talents BEYOND THE FEED!” Those chosen for the show will “compete for the opportunity of a lifetime and be mentored by interior Design Icon Nate Berkus.”
Berkus’ new show will be produced by Velvet Hammer Media, launched in 2023 by two former HBO Max programming execs. Their Netflix series “Age of Attraction” was the streamer’s most successful new unscripted show during the first half of 2026, according to Deadline.
Producers are currently accepting applications, which includes an in-depth questionairre about interest content creators’ design experience, and asking what makes them “most excited about working under the mentorship of Nate Berkus —and what makes you the most nervous?”
Nate Berkus Has a Long History of Working in TV
GettyBerkus has a long history on hit TV shows, starting with “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 2001 and quickly becoming the talk show queen’s primary interior design expert. He’s since starred in various series, from his own daytime talk show that launched in 2010 to co-starring in multiple shows with his husband, fellow interior designer and “Queer Eye” alum Jeremiah Brent.
Berkus’ most recent show was HGTV’s “The Nate & Jeremiah Home Project,” which last aired in 2023. But he reappeared on the network in February, stepping in as one of the design judges on “Bachelor Mansion Makeover.”
When Berkus appeared on the “Inspired with Alex Von Tobel” podcast in November 2025, he said he was excited about the direction of unscripted television, predicting that “YouTube is the future of TV.”
“The gatekeeping that goes on between the talent and the audience by the networks, by production, by editors, by that whole machine, is almost over,” he said. “Jeremiah and I have had fights on TV that don’t make it on. We’ve had, you know, in the craziest bloopers and like the funniest things and also real situations that don’t make it on.”
He continued, “On YouTube, it makes it. There is nothing between you and the people interested in what you are doing and what you have to say. That’s it. For good or bad, by the way, take that any way. It can’t all be great.”
