Jennifer Lopez has just shared one of her hot takes on the ‘SubwayTakes Uncut with Kareem Rahma’ podcast, and it’s a juicy one. The former “American Idol” judge and iconic singer, who has gone through four divorces, shared her thoughts on breakups and how honestly if you’re going through one it should be seen as a cause for celebration.
What Did JLo Say?
GettyKareen asked Jennifer if there was ever a breakup that to her felt like the beginning of a transformation, where she exited it and felt like she was becoming a new person.
She thought about it and responded by saying: “When I just recently got divorced it really made me take a look at everything in my life, because I feel like I was heartbroken but I was heartbroken too. […] And that part of it really changed my life completely. I can honestly say that I am a different person than I was two years ago, even five years ago.”
The star continued: “I’m a big advocate of when you’re in that place where you feel so heartbroken and something hasn’t worked out the way you thought it was going to, it’s like embrace those tears. Dig into the thing that you need to figure out for yourself and really? Throw yourself a party. You felt something that deeply that it moved you into change.
“[…] Breakups are not a failure. I honestly feel like it’s a launchpad into your next best self. We should have a party when we break up. ‘You broke up’? Congratulations!”
The Dating History of Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer has had four husbands, her most recent being Ben Affleck who she split from in 2024. The former flames originally dated in the early 2000s and got engaged in 2022, though they decided to go their separate ways. Decades later in 2021 the couple decided to give their romance another shot, though sadly after two years of dating once more they decided it was for the best to end things.
Jennifer and Ben are on good terms and Ben only seems to have lovely things to say about her. He even referred to dating JLo as “heavenly” in his vows, which JLo shared in her newsletter “On The J.Lo”. A snippet read: “This is heaven. Right Here. We’re in it now.”
Ben also shut down any rumors of bad blood between them in an interview with GQ, noting: “There is no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue.”
Aside from Ben, JLo has had three other husbands. Her first was Ojani Noa, a waiter at a Cuban restaurant who she had been friends with for nearly a decade prior to their relationship, Cris Judd who was a backup dancer on the production set for her music video “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”, and Marc Anthony who she started dating after her first split from Ben. Marc was a friend of hers but things between them didn’t turn romantic until later down the line.
We wish Jennifer every bit of love and support in all her endeavors!
