‘A Man on the Inside’ Season 3 Filming Update Sets Up Show’s Highly Anticipated Return

Charles Nieuwendyk will return for another case, but the wait for that return is a little longer than fans would hope. Despite only having to wait a year between the first two seasons on Netflix, “A Man on the Inside” Season 3 won’t arrive in 2026.

The writing was on the wall for the delay when Netflix took until February 2026 to renew it. Now, the cameras won’t start rolling until later in the year, and that means pushing the return back to 2027 at the earliest.

When Will ‘A Man on the Inside’ Season 3 Start Filming?

What’s on Netflix confirms that production won’t start until fall 2026. The cameras are currently slated to roll on Sept. 21, 2026. The good news is that filming is currently set to wrap on Nov. 3, 2026. It’s a much shorter production timeframe than Netflix shows usually have, and that helps to settle the idea that “A Man on the Inside” Season 3 could arrive in 2027.

There is some post-production work, but nothing of the likes of “House of the Dragon” or “Stranger Things,” and that helps to keep that timeframe to a minimum. While the filming window is short, it’s not an indication that there is a sudden reduction in episode count. This is a half-hour comedy, so eight episodes will take half the time to film compared to the hour-long dramas.

However, this completely rules out a 2026 release, as it’s impossible to get through post-production before the end of December. Sadly, it means a November 2026 is out of the question, so that ruins the show’s run of November releases so far.

It’s easy to believe that a spring 2027 release date is possible. If Netflix really wants to push it, then it would be in the summer. However, Netflix probably won’t want to wait too long, especially considering the lower viewership that the second season pulled in.

What’s the reason for the delay, though? Creator Michael Schur hasn’t confirmed, but it’s possibly linked to his schedule. He started working on the Peacock comedy “Dig” in January 2026, just before the renewal for “A Man on the Inside” came through. “Dig” wrapped filming in May, so now could be the best time to start work on a separate show. The delay in renewing the series certainly wouldn’t have helped!

As of writing this, Netflix hasn’t given any clues to the plotline for the third season. This isn’t too surprising. If filming isn’t set to start until next month, it means that the writing process is currently underway. Things can change.

What is surprising is that no casting announcements have been made. Each season is a separate case. While Ted Danson will reprise his role as Charles, there is room for many new characters as the season’s case unfolds. All we know for now is that Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, and Stephanie Beatriz will all reprise their roles.

The filming schedule is still tentative right now. All production schedules are slated to change, which is why Netflix won’t want to release too much information at this early stage.
