CBS Cancels 4 Shows, Including a Long-Running Sitcom

The CBS primetime lineup has seen some changes this year, with several shows coming to an end.

While not as heavy on cancellations as NBC, which pulled the plug on 10 shows, CBS’s cancellations still come as a surprise to some.

Here’s a look at the CBS shows canceled in 2026.

‘Watson’

“Watson” officially bids goodbye after two seasons. The series, which premiered in January 2025, aired its final episode on May 3, 2026.

In April, Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, shared some details of the cancellation.

“Morris Chestnut is maybe one of the greatest No. 1โ€™s Iโ€™ve ever dealt with. But, you know, itโ€™s a high bar on CBS. We aggregate all the numbers, and we have to make those tough decisions in order to make room for new shows,” Reisenbach explained in a statement (via Deadline).

“Watson” creator Craig Sweeny wrote an ending for the season 2 finale that doubles as a definitive series send-off.

“The season finale was tricky to write in that, even while we were filming it, we didnโ€™t know if the show was coming back or not,” he told the outlet.

The show concluded with Watson undergoing surgery for his tumor, though his fate after that remains unknown.

‘DMV’

Along with “Watson,” CBS pulled the plug on “DMV” in March. The series was short-lived, having only been on the air since October 2025.

While CBS has yet to confirm the reasons behind the cancellation, the show reportedly didn’t pull in the viewership, per Parade.

“DMV” aired its final episode on May 11, 2026.

‘The Neighborhood’

CBS’s long-running sitcom, “The Neighborhood,” aired its final episode on May 11, 2026.

In March 2025, the network announced that the beloved comedy series had been renewed for its eighth and final season.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at ‘THE NEIGHBORHOOD’ led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” Reisenbach said in a statement. “‘THE NEIGHBORHOOD’ is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the showโ€™s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

“The Neighborhood” star Cedric the Entertainment opened up about the show’s cancellation, citing hefty production costs and increasing cast salary demands.

“After eight seasons, everybody needed raises, and that’s when you knew, ‘Alright, this show is getting ready to be done,'” the actor said during an April 2026 episode ofย “The Breakfast Club.”

“The Neighborhood” concluded with a double wedding between Calvin and Tina’s sons โ€” and an emotional goodbye from Dave and Gemma as they move back to Michigan.

‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’

In July 2025, host Stephen Colbert announced that “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was coming to an end. The cancellation came just days after Colbert made some controversial remarks about President Donald Trump.

“Before we start the show, I want you to know something that I found out just last night,” Colbert said at the time. “Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending ‘Theย Late Show’ย in May.”

Colbert continued, “It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end ofย ‘The Late Show’ on CBS. I’m not being replaced. This is all just going away. And I do want to say that the folks at CBS have been great partners.”

In a statement, CBS maintained the move was merely a cost-saving measure.

“Thisย is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.ย It is not related in any way to the showโ€™s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,” the statement said (via PEOPLE). “Our admiration, affection, and respect for the talents of Stephen Colbert and his incredible team made this agonizing decision even more difficult.ย Stephenย hasย taken CBS late night by storm with cutting-edge comedy, a must-watch monologue and interviews with leaders in entertainment, politics, news, and newsmakers across all areas.”

The last episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” aired on May 21, 2026.
