Charli xcx Reveals the Legendary Actress Who Surprised Her at ‘Brat’ Tour Show

Charli xcx had a surprise guest at her May 4 show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, famous actress Nicole Kidman.

Nicole Kidman’s ‘To Die For’ Role Helped Inspire ‘Brat’

Charli xcx performs onstage during the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards at Crypto.com Arena.

The pop star spoke in a British Vogue cover story about how excited she was to spot the “Practical Magic 2” actress at her concert.

“She’s one of our last truly legendary movie stars,” she said to the outlet. “She came to my show in New York when I was on the Brat tour. I couldn’t believe she came.”

The singer has shown support for the actress before and once wore a T-shirt featuring three photos of Kidman, with “NICOLE” printed on it, and posted it to her TikTok page, according to People.

Charli has been vocal about her love for Kidman over the years and has mentioned the 1995 comedy-thriller “To Die For.” She claims that Kidman’s character in that film, a small-town weather reporter who arranges to have her husband murdered so she can succeed as a news anchor, served as inspiration for her “Brat” album.

“All of these films in some way link to the world of ‘Brat,’” she said. “Whether it’s Suzanne Stone’s extreme desire for attention in ‘To Die For’ or the story of rivalry and lust between musicians in ‘The Velvet Goldmine,’ there are things that link directly to the energy of ‘Brat.’”

Fans Got an Early Listen to ‘Music, Fashion, Film’

She also just wrapped up a series of global listening events in independent movie theaters across 25 cities in preparation for her “Music, Fashion, Film” album. These screenings offered fans an opportunity to listen to her seventh studio album before it dropped on streaming platforms on July 24.

The listening events spanned North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Brazil. There were also stops in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, London, Manchester, Mexico City, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Milan, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Tokyo.

These screenings were not just music, and fans were able to watch documentary-style visuals and behind-the-scenes footage shot during the recording of the album. Fans who attended the New York City screening got to see Charli appear at Metrograph to introduce the album before the listening session began.

The Singer Celebrates Film and Fashion With Her New Album

She also used a similar strategy before releasing “Brat” and invited fans to New York’s Storm King Art Center for an exclusive first listen before releasing the album in 2024. This intimate event built excitement for the album before it was even released, and it gave attendees an opportunity to hear the album before it was available on streaming services.

Charli went even bigger this time by partnering with independent theaters across the world to bring the same listening experience to multiple continents. She surprised her fans with the release by posting the album cover for “Music, Fashion, Film” on Instagram.

The black-and-white artwork features fashion designer Marc Jacobs, filmmaker Martin Scorsese, and musician John Cale. The singer has always identified fashion as part of her identity, and she often attends fashion shows and collaborates with luxury brands.
