Academy Award-winning actress Julianne Moore has paid tribute to the late journalist and social movement activist Gloria Steinem following her sad passing at the age of 92.
Steinem was born on March 25, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio. She died on Wednesday, September 2, in New York City.
Moore, 65, played Steinem in 2020’s biographical drama movie “The Glorias.” Directed by Julie Taymor, the film is based on Steinem’s 2015 autobiography, “My Life on the Road.”
Per IMDb’s synopsis, the film is “The story of feminist icon Gloria Steinem’s itinerant childhood and its influence on her life as a writer, activist and organizer for women’s rights worldwide.”
As well as Moore, Alicia Vikander (young adult Gloria), Lulu Wilson (teen Gloria), and Ryan Kiera Armstrong (child Gloria) play Steinem at different ages in the movie. “The Glorias” boasts a respectable 66% approval rating from critics at review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes (and an impressive 83% rating by fans on the same website).
Moore took to social media to pay her respects to Steinem following the sad news of her death.

Julianne Moore shared her tribute to Gloria Steinem with the 2.8 million followers on her Instagram account.
The post includes a single photograph from the set of “The Glorias.” In the snap, all four actresses who portrayed Steinem are standing alongside the great woman herself, as well as the movie’s director, Julie Taymor (who also co-wrote and produced it).
Specifically, from left to right in the picture, there’s Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Lulu Wilson, Alicia Vikander, Julianne Moore, Gloria Steinem, and Julia Taymor.
Moore’s caption on her post begins, “We were so lucky.”
The caption goes on, “The time I spent studying Gloria Steinem in order to play her was one of the most edifying of my life. Everything I watched, everything I read, everything I observed about her gave me a template for how I wanted to behave. Her honesty, her tolerance, her patience, and her insistence on humanism and inclusion as she moved through the world offers us all a moral roadmap.”
It concludes, “Thank you for all you gave us, Gloria. 💔”

We’re sure Steinem was incredibly proud of Moore. As well as winning the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in the 2014 tragedy movie “Still Alice,” she was nominated at the prestigious event on four other occasions (for “Boogie Nights,” “The End of the Affair,” “Far From Heaven,” and “The Hours”).
Other notable movies she has appeared in include “The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Magnolia,” “Children of Men,” “Carrie,” and two installments in “The Hunger Games” franchise.
