Kate Hudson Hints at Working With Mom Goldie Hawn in Future: ‘I Would Love It’

Academy Award-nominated actress Kate Hudson has been talking about the possibility of starring alongside her mom on screen.

Hudson, 47, whose mother is, of course, Academy Award-winning actress Goldie Hawn, 80, opened up about a potential future on-screen collaboration between the pair during an April 23 interview on the syndicated morning talk show “Live with Kelly & Mark.”

Host Kelly Ripa triggered the conversation by saying, “We all want to see you and your mom, Goldie Hawn, together on-screen.” She then frankly asked, “Will that happen in my lifetime?”

Per Hello, in response to Kelly Ripa’s question about whether working with her mom Goldie Hawn is going to happen, Kate Hudson replied in no uncertain terms.

She said, “I would love it to. Every time I see Kurt Russell (her stepfather) and Wyatt Russell (her half-brother) together I’m like, ‘that is just not fair.’ Why do you guys get to do this?”

Hudson continued, “I would love to work with my mom. It would just have to be so right. We would both want it to be very meaningful. Whatever that is or whenever that time comes, I hope so.”

Ripa then asked, “Have you ever considered writing a project?”

Hudson then responded, “Yes. I have thought about it. My mom hasn’t worked in a long time. She does a lot with kids and she’s really happy in her life. But I think about it all the time.”

Hudson Has Previously Spoken About Working With Hawn

Kate Hudson, whose father is musician Bill Hudson, has previously hinted about working with her mother on screen.

While appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” back in 2025, Hudson answered an audience member’s question about acting with Hawn.

The audience member asked, “What would it take for you to collaborate with your mother for your next movie?”

After explaining that she and Goldie Hawn both get asked that question a lot, Hudson said, “I think it would just be the right story… I think the things we’ve gotten sent over the years feel a little light.”

She continued, saying, “I think if my mom and I are going to do something together, it needs some real weight,” adding that the project would have to be “really funny” and “hit in a different way.”

That makes a lot of sense, since both Hawn and Hudson are known for their appearances in great comedy movies.

Hawn’s comedy appearances include 1970’s “There’s a Girl in My Soup,” 1980’s “Private Benjamin,” and 1992’s “Death Becomes Her” (per IMDb). Hudson’s include 2000’s “Almost Famous,” 2003’s “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” and 2006’s “You, Me and Dupree” (per IMDb).

Both stars have proven they’re no joke, however, as Hawn won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 1969’s screwball comedy “Cactus Flower” and received a Best Actress nomination for the aforementioned “Private Benjamin.” Hudson recently received a Best Actress nomination for the aforementioned “Almost Famous” and a Best Supporting Actress nomination for 2025’s biographical musical drama “Song Sung Blue.”

We’d love to see the brilliant mother-daughter duo of Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson acting alongside each other, whether it be on the big or small screen. Here’s hoping it happens very soon.
