Nancy Guthrie has been missing for almost two weeks, and her disappearance was first reported on February 1. Law enforcement officials continue to work tirelessly to discover her.
New details of the case have emerged, including suggestions that a masked man was involved in her alleged abduction. As authorities search for this person, news outlets and social media have widely circulated footage, and one of Guthrie’s neighbors has commented on the case, sharing how she is terrified.
Nancy Guthrie’s Neighbor Weighs in on Case
GettyFootage of a man wearing a black ski mask and latex gloves, apparently filmed on a door camera, has left many feeling uneasy. He is carrying a large backpack and appears to have a gun. “It was startling and a bit terrifying,” neighbor Laura Gargano, who lives in the area, told CNN on Wednesday, February 11. “But I immediately went to assess the physique of this person. I [looked at] the shape of the head, the size of the legs and the approximate weight to see if he looked familiar.”
It is hard to see the person’s details because the video is black-and-white and his face is covered, but you can determine his height and body shape and see his eyes. Guthrie’s family, including her brother-in-law, Michael Feldman, has been asking the public for help identifying this man.
“I assumed it was a male and I immediately started to run through the people I have worked with here,” Gargano said. “A lot of times, people share service people in the area.” She continued, “I just immediately looked to see if the shape looked familiar to me. I did that more than being fearful — but also hopeful because now we have an image to go by. Momentarily I pulled out some hope.”
Nancy Guthrie’s Neighborhood Was ‘Safe’
GettyThis is not the first time Guthrie’s neighbors have spoken to the media about their feelings surrounding her disappearance and their neighborhood. This includes Gargano, who gave an interview to People, published on February 4.
“It’s a very safe area,” Gargano told People. “People move to this neighborhood because it’s always considered one of the best ones to live in. This has been a sort of beautiful mecca for people.”
Gargano also spoke about Guthrie, who is 84 and lives alone. “She is very sweet,” Gargano said. “The first time I went over and introduced myself to her, she just welcomed me in.”
Everyone is hopeful that Guthrie’s whereabouts will be located soon and that she will be brought home safely.
