Why Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance May Have Been Premeditated

Security and risk management company owner Dan Donovan shared his insights in an interview with Us Weekly on February 9. He addressed details of the case, including the apparent element of premeditation, which he believes is due to the camera found on the roof. 

“A camera on the roof suggests surveillance, planning, and situational awareness. That’s not the behavior of someone improvising,” Donovan told the publication. “It could mean they were watching entry points, watching police response patterns, or monitoring the home to see who comes and goes.”

He continued, “If it’s tied to the ransom note, it reinforces something critical: this may not be an emotional crime — it may be operational. And operational criminals tend to follow through when they feel control slipping.” These comments come after FBI personnel were seen on Guthrie’s roof, apparently removing what appeared to be a wired camera, which was taken into evidence. It is unclear whether evidence can be gathered from this device.

Guthrie has been missing since February 1. She is believed to have been abducted, with kidnappers sharing a ransom note with news outlets. They are demanding millions in Bitcoin. Earlier this week, the FBI released footage of an individual they believe could be involved in the Guthrie case. Her daughter, “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie’s husband, Michael Feldman, broke his social media silence on Tuesday, February 10, when he shared the footage online and asked fans for their help in identifying the individual.

The black-and-white video appears to have been recorded on a door camera. It shows a suspect wearing a black ski mask and latex gloves. He is also carrying a large backpack and appears to have a gun holstered on his waist. In the caption, Feldman wrote, “Someone out there may recognize this person. Please help us. Bring her home.” Fans and celebrities have rallied around Feldman and Guthrie’s family, sharing their support and love in the post’s comments.

Some of the most recent case updates include the discovery of a mysterious black glove, an increase in the reward money, and footage of an individual wearing a backpack resembling the man in the released video.
