Savannah Guthrie’s Sister Was Last to See Their Mom Just Hours Before She Went Missing

“Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and her family are in the midst of a deeply personal and emotional moment after her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was reported missing from her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona — and new details reveal that Savannah’s sister was the last person in the family to see Nancy before she disappeared late on Jan. 31, 2026.

The update comes amid an ongoing search that has involved authorities and family members working together to locate Nancy and bring her safely home.

Last Known Sighting and Timeline

According to law enforcement updates, Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her residence around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 after spending time with family — including Savannah’s sibling — before the evening concluded, according to Us Weekly

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos spoke with the outlet to reveal the latest timeline the police have.

“We have a start point,” Nanos said. “The family took her home from dinner at about 9:30 to 9:45 [p.m.]”

A close family friend from Nancy’s church later became concerned when she did not show up for morning service the next day, prompting her friends to reach out to Savannah and her siblings.

After that call, the family went to the home and began looking for Nancy before contacting authorities.

In the official report, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Nancy’s disappearance is now being treated as a potential crime, and investigators believe she did not leave on her own, noting her limited mobility and physical health issues that require daily medication.

Law enforcement described the scene at her home as “concerning,” leading to involvement from homicide detectives and search efforts that include helicopters, drones and search-and-rescue teams.

Family Response and Search Efforts

Savannah Guthrie, who was slated to appear on “Today” that Monday, Feb. 2, was absent from the broadcast as she focused on the search for her mother.

In a statement shared through colleagues, Savannah expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support from the public and law enforcement, emphasizing that “our focus remains on the safe return of our dear Mom.”

Savannah’s siblings — including the sister who was last with their mom — have been actively engaged in the search and efforts to gather information as the investigation continues.

Authorities have appealed to the public for tips, urging anyone with relevant information or surveillance footage near the Catalina Foothills area to reach out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

A Close Family Bond

Over the years, Savannah has spoken openly about her close relationship with Nancy, who raised her and her siblings after the sudden death of Savannah’s father when she was just 16.

Nancy’s influence and support have been themes Savannah has revisited in interviews and tributes, often highlighting her mother’s strength, selflessness and unwavering belief in her daughter’s aspirations — qualities that shaped Savannah’s career and outlook on life.

Ongoing Hope and Support

The family’s united front, including the involvement of Savannah’s sister who last saw Nancy before her disappearance, reflects both their love for their mother and their determination during this uncertain time.

Community members, friends and fans continue to share messages of support and hope as the search unfolds, underscoring the profound connection the Guthrie family shares and the widespread wish for Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.
