Savannah Guthrie and her mom, Nancy Guthrie, share a deep bond. The “Today” host often invited her beloved mother on the set of her morning show and even publicly shared an emotional tribute for Nancy’s 80th birthday in January 2022.
Emotional Savannah Guthrie Video Resurfaces
Savannah fought back tears as she shared a sweet birthday tribute to her mother on January 27, 2022.
“It is my mom’s 80th birthday, and I’m hoping this gives her a boost,” Guthrie said during the “Morning Boost” segment of the show. “My mom, Nancy Guthrie, was born on this day as Nancy Ellen Long. 1942 in Fort Wright, Kentucky, carrying that family trade of round cheeks, and curly hair and blue eyes that continue to this day.”
She continued, “She’s lived a life of integrity and loyalty. She is a consistent doer of the right thing and the hard thing. She’s a truth teller, whether you really want to hear the truth or not. She’s quick and she’s smart. She’s well-read. She’s curious about everything. She’s daring and adventurous. She’s willing to jet off anywhere and I really do mean jet.”
Savannah gushed about her mom’s strength through “unthinkable challenges,” while maintaining her “unshakeable faith.”
“She loves her family fiercely and her selflessness and sacrifice for us, her steadfastness and her unmovable confidence is the reason any of us grew up to do anything,” the beloved host continued.
“She’s going to be embarrassed by this, but I hope a little pleased.”
Nancy Guthrie Remains Missing
Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday evening after her daughter, Annie Guthrie, dropped her off at her home outside of Tucson, Arizona, following a family dinner. She was reported missing around noon on Sunday after friends noticed she was absent from her regular church service.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed on Wednesday that they still have “no suspect or person of interest” in the case.
During a conversation with NBC News reporter Liz Kreutz on Monday, Nanos explained that investigators have reason to believe Guthrie was “harmed” when she was taken from her home “against her will.”
“[Nanos] would not tell us the extent of those injuries,” Kreutz said in a special report on Monday, February 2. “I was just in the neighborhood where this happened with some members of the community driving around with a photo of Nancy, desperately trying to find anyone who may have seen her.”
Guthrie celebrated her 84th birthday on January 27.
