Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary is approaching, and nearly three decades after the “Spice” album turned Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham, unknown British singers into global superstars, the Spice Girls will open up their archive with an offering of a career-spanning box set.
The box set is set to arrive on November 6 and, according to an official announcement from the group, will include some unreleased Spice Girls music. The announcement regarding the archive comes after the group sent fans into a frenzy on Wednesday with a cryptic social media post.
Into The Spice Girls Archive
At the center of the release is “Do You Think About Me,” a track that has been described as one of the group’s earliest demos, one that was created before the group acquired that polished, chart-topping sound fans know so well. It is the first time it will officially be released and is expected to offer a glimpse into the lives the girls were leading before true global fame found them.
The CD edition will offer even more, as it features an entire bonus disc dedicated to four previously unreleased demos, providing even more valuable material that has never circulated publicly for longtime fans of the group.
Beyond unreleased tracks, the collection also includes new messages from all five members scattered throughout the accompanying booklet. The messages saw each Spice Girl reflecting on the legacy of an album that became the group’s best-selling record and made for a nice personal touch.
What Fans Can Expect Across the Two Editions
The box set has two formats that are centered around the group’s complete singles catalogue. One format is the Vinyl edition, which puts all 14 of the group’s singles on individually collared 7-inch records for the first time, each paired with its original lead B-side and packaged in the single’s original artwork. It also includes bonus discs for “Step to Me” and “Tell Me Why.”
Meanwhile, the other format, the CD edition, offers up to 160 tracks in total, complete with B-sides and rare remixes as well as similar bonus material.
The Release Is Part Of A Bigger Celebration
Spice Girls releasing unreleased music comes amid a year of anniversary celebrations revolving around the group. In July, the group marked three decades since the “Wannabe” track first launched their career.
Victoria Beckham took to Instagram with a tribute in which she referred to the single as one that “changed our lives forever” while adding that she’ll “always be grateful” to have been part of the journey. The band has also come together informally over the year, including for a celebration of Emma Bunton’s 50th birthday, a day Bunton later claimed on Instagram was “full of love.”.
Sadly, fans who are looking forward to the anniversary bringing together the five members on stage may have to wait some more because no new tour has been announced with the collection. For now, the focus is the music itself, three decades’ worth of it, which includes some unreleased music, giving fans plenty of material to revisit while they wait.
