Mary Cosby’s son, Robert Cosby Jr., is being lovingly remembered in an obituary that was released in early March following his heartbreaking death at just 23 years old on February 23, 2026. Robert was an accomplished scholar and an emerging fashion force, per the tribute.
His cause of death is still under investigation, but TMZ reported emergency personnel responded to a “possible overdose” and administered Narcan on the scene. That’s according to dispatch audio the outlet obtained from the incident.

Mary Cosby’s son’s obituary, which was published on Legacy.com, begins by calling Robert “a beloved son” and revealing his nickname was “Bubs.”
It goes on to say that in school, Robert was a high achiever, gaining early acceptance to Cornell University, where he spent his 10th grade year. He then returned home, wanting a traditional high school experience, and graduated from Juan Diego Catholic High School in Draper, Utah.
Robert memorably founded the the inaugural “Thrasher Fest” skateboard tournament in his role as a Mortgage Loan Officer Assistant at Hope Mortgage. The tribute also touched on Robert’s “unmatched” love for style and fashion, and his musical talents. He played the piano “like an angel,” it says.

The obituary says Robert shared a close and loving relationship with his mother, calling her “his closest confidant.” It also says he loved both his parents “with a fierce and unwavering devotion.”
It goes on to describe his commitment to the family’s religion, saying, “His first and greatest love, however, was for God. Baptized in Jesus’ Name and filled with the Holy Ghost, he was cherished as the First Son of the Faith Temple Pentecostal Churches. His faith guided him throughout his life, and he shared his journey-its triumphs and its trials-with courage and sincerity, touching countless lives.”
The obituary concludes by saying that along with his parents Mary and Robert Cosby Sr., Robert left behind his two pets, Kray and Donatello, along with his large extended family, the “entire” Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, and “many beautiful and caring friends around the world.”
