Taylor Frankie Paul is marking a major milestone after a judge ruled that the “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star completed the terms of her three-year probation.
“Three years probation complete. All my probation officers said it was one of the longest probations they had seen for first-time offense,” Paul, 32, wrote on Instagram Friday, Aug. 7. “Back then, I wasn’t even aware of what domestic violence was. Unfortunately, many will experience it as many already have.”
Us Weekly confirmed Friday that Paul is no longer on probation. A judge also amended her aggravated assault felony charge to a Class A misdemeanor.
Authorities arrested Paul in 2023 following an alleged altercation with then-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen. Paul pleaded guilty to assault as part of a plea agreement that dismissed other charges related to child abuse.
Paul Reflects on Her Experience
Paul opened up about what she learned from the experience and reflected on the complexities of domestic violence.
“DV is a sneaky cycle to get stuck in because by the time you realize what actually is happening you’re already stuck in it,” Paul wrote. “I don’t care if you see me as the villain or victim. This all surfacing the way it viciously and vindictively did, has been hell on earth and if I didn’t have the support I have I don’t think I would have made it through.”
Footage from Paul’s 2023 arrest surfaced in March. The video showed the reality star throwing chairs at Mortensen, 33, in front of her daughter, Indy.
Paul shares Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 6, with ex-husband Tate Paul. She also shares 2-year-old son Ever with Mortensen.
Paul and Mortensen Continue Custody Case
The release of the arrest footage led Paul to temporarily lose custody of Ever. A judge later granted her visitation rights and issued mutual protective orders for Paul and Mortensen.
The orders require the former couple to remain at least 100 feet apart.
During an April hearing, the judge described the relationship as highly toxic and encouraged both parents to focus on co-parenting.
“This has been a very toxic relationship. It’s beyond the pale in a lot of ways, the toxicity,” the judge said. “What I’ve seen from the evidence even post [the] last hearing, there seems to be a continuing attraction that they have for each other. … You guys have to figure out a lot here. You have to figure out how to function as coparents.”
The judge also urged Paul and Mortensen to keep their conflict away from their son.
“I’m hoping that you’re not people who just thrive on the drama and the conflict. You’ve got to put your child first and shield the child from this conflict,” the judge said.
A New Chapter for Frankie Paul
The judge initially expressed hesitation about changing the custody arrangements while considering the circumstances surrounding the case.
“I’m going to leave the current order in place. I need to think a little bit more about this lifting of supervision. I have mixed feelings about it,” the judge said.
Paul and Mortensen have both strongly denied allegations made against them during their legal proceedings.
With Paul now having completed her three-year probation, she is reflecting on the experience and the lessons she says she has taken from it as she continues navigating co-parenting with Mortensen.
