Tori Spelling Bravely Opens up About Her Divorce and Setting a ‘Great Example’ for Her Children

Actress Tori Spelling settled her divorce from ex-husband Dean McDermott, whom she co-starred with in their reality television show “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” that documented their life as a family. They settled the divorce earlier this month after initially filing in March 2024. Now, Spelling is courageously opening up about what she wants divorce to look like for their five children.

Inside Spelling & McDermott’s Divorce

The “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum initially filed for divorce from McDermott on March 29, 2024 after 18 years of marriage. At the time, Spelling requested the court award her spousal support and sole physical custody of their five minor children and joint legal custody with McDermott’s visitation rights to be determined.

At the beginning of November 2025, the former couple settled their divorce over two years after first separating. They signed off on the terms in late October, according to documents filed to the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles on November 3.

Spelling and McDermott checked off that they’ll submit a written agreement to the court, with their divorce listed as “uncontested,” according to the court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In the documents, Spelling cited irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their split and listed their official date of separation as June 17, 2023. Her request for spousal and child support has also been “ordered.”

Spelling Calls Divorce a ‘Clean Slate’

On her podcast misSPELLING, she discussed her recent divorce settlement. Spelling stated that she felt lucky to be walking away from her divorce with a “clean slate.”

“Dean and I came out of this divorce with a clean slate. Neither of us asked each other for anything,” said Spelling. “We walked away as two complete parties that are just there to support, love, raise and set a great example of how families can divorce, uncouple and lead by example and still be there for their family.”

Spelling and McDermott are parents to five kids, Liam Aaron McDermott, 18, Stella Doreen, 17, Hattie Margaret, 14, Finn Davey, 13, and Beau Dean, 8.

“Our kids are most important. And it makes me sad to think that so many marriages are not in a good place. And it’s sad to think that the human that you started this beautiful, fairy tale-esque dream, because that’s every young person’s dream is a fairy tale,” said Spelling. “And to be lead in your own rom com and to create such beautiful memories to raise families together. And then one day, it’s done. And people walk away and they hate each other.”

“They can’t see each other. You know, it’s just the kids go back and forth and it makes me sad. And I feel beyond blessed that I have the opposite of that,” she added.

Spelling & Her Children

Spelling only posts her children on rare occasions, but when she does, it’s heartwarming.
