‘General Hospital’ Star Wants John Oliver as New Love Interest on Show After His Plea for Soap Role

General Hospital” star Nancy Lee Grahn has responded to comedian John Oliver’s quest for a soap role. The soap icon has the perfect role for Oliver, who wants to try his hand in the daytime world.

Nancy Lee Grahn Suggests John Oliver as Her ‘General Hospital’ Love Interest

On his show “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”, the host revealed that he wants a chance to work in soaps. Oliver gave a passionate plea to the powers that be for the five soaps, “General Hospital”, “The Young and the Restless”, The Bold and the Beautiful”, “Days of Our Lives”, and “Beyond the Gates” to write him a short-term character.

When Grahn got word of his request, she used Threads to declare him perfect for the ABC soap and to play her character, Alexis Davis, a much-needed love interest.

“I want him. Alexis needs a hot love interest and it will be short termed without a lasting commitment since all her lovers eventually become psychopaths and die. #JohnOliver would make a perfect psychopath. It’ll write itself,” she wrote on Threads.

Fans jumped into the comments to reveal excitement over the idea of getting Oliver on “General Hospital” and giving Alexis a love interest.

In the fall, Grahn will celebrate 30 years of playing Alexis on the hit ABC soap. The legal eagle’s love life has been turbulent at best, and Grahn hit it on the nose when saying Alexis has a thing for psychos and bad guys.

However, it’s been years since Alexis had a love interest, even a crazy one. Bringing Oliver in as a possible love interest isn’t a bad idea.

Fans also suggested that Oliver might be a good fit for the ABC soap as the father of Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), who has no family connection on the show other than his daughter.

John Oliver’s Plea to Be on a Soap

After learning that sports personality Stephen A. Smith plays Brick on “General Hospital” while also working on his other shows, Oliver became a bit jealous. Oliver opened up about it on his HBO show and pleaded for a chance to work on a soap.

“To all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I’ll be on your set so fast, it’ll make your head spin. I only have a few conditions: First, I don’t want to play myself, I want to be a character and I want his name to be ridiculous,” he declared.

Oliver went on to issue his other demands, saying, “Also, I want to do something juicy, like murder or slapping or being slapped or being someone’s long-lost something and, ideally, I’d like a dramatic closeup of my face. But in return, trust me, I will give my all to this performance.”

To prove he has the chops for the soap world, Oliver reenacted a scene that Smith did on “General Hospital” with a little help from “30 Rock” alum, Jack McBrayer. The latter made a guest appearance on the ABC soap as KFC founder Colonel Sanders back in 2018 in a scene with Lulu (then-Emme Rylan) and Maxie (Kirsten Storms).

Oliver went all out to prove to the soap world that he has what it takes to do a small arc in the daytime genre. Now someone just needs to answer his plea.
