While Prince Louis has titles and is fourth in line for the throne, he’s also just a normal child. Through the years, the public has spotted the little boy making faces or looking bored at serious formal events. But on his birthday, the day will be all about the prince.

Kensington Palace Celebrates Prince Louis’ Birthday With a Sweet Tribute
On April 23, 2018, Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their third child, Louis Arthur Charles, into the world. He was also welcomed by his older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
The public largely knows the young prince for his hilarious facial expressions at serious events. Even at Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the little boy could be seen making faces and being scolded by his mother.
At the end of the day, Prince Louis is just like any other boy his age.
“He’s a character, but he’s a very good boy,” Prince William told the Daily Mail in 2025. “He likes to wind his brother and sister up.”
GettyOn Instagram, Kensington Palace’s official Instagram account thanked the public for sending Prince Louis kind birthday messages and attached a video. In the clip montage, the little boy plays in the sand, runs around on the beach, and jumps into the sea. He appears to be quite an adventurous child.
“Thank you for all the birthday wishes for Prince Louis. 8 is great!” the account shared.
“It matters not what title if any that you hold as a child because nothing beats ‘playing in the sand’ Happy Blessed Birthday Louis 🎂” one Instagram user wrote in the comments.
The Prince & His Grandfather Share a Close, Loving Bond
To the public, King Charles III is one of the most powerful monarchs in the world. But to Prince Louis and his siblings, he’s just their grandfather. The king loves each of his grandchildren, but seems to have a uniquely close relationship with Prince Louis.
During Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, the public spotted the young prince happily sitting on his grandfather’s lap to watch the celebration.

“The Queen has often talked about her husband’s delight in reading books to his grandchildren, doing all the different voices in the Harry Potter series, for instance, and crawling around on hands and knees to entertain them,” Nash reports. “He clearly has a warm and playful relationship with them and delights in spending time with them when he can. No doubt it brings back happy memories of his own sons at the same age.”
