Ariana Grande is officially stepping into the world of the Fockers. The singer and actress joins Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in the upcoming comedy “Focker In-Law,” the fourth installment in the long-running “Meet the Parents” franchise, which just debuted its first trailer.
The film, set to hit theaters on Nov. 27, brings back original stars including Stiller, De Niro, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo, while introducing newcomers like Grande and Beanie Feldstein. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project marks the franchise’s return after a 15-year gap since “Little Fockers” was released in 2010.
The newly released trailer leans into the series’ signature awkward humor, opening with De Niro’s character once again putting a new family member to the test. This time, Grande’s character is in the hot seat during a lie detector scene, echoing one of the most memorable moments from the original film. Stiller’s character even asks, “Do you think I hold Henry emotionally hostage?” referencing his son, who is now romantically involved with Grande’s character.
Ariana Grande’s Character Brings a New Twist to the Family
Grande plays Olivia, the fiancée of Stiller and Teri Polo’s on-screen son, played by Skyler Gisondo. According to Deadline, the story centers on their engagement and the family’s skepticism about whether she is the right fit. While Olivia passes De Niro’s iconic lie detector test and earns a place in the “circle of trust,” the trailer hints there may be more to her than meets the eye.
At one point in the footage, Grande’s character tells the family, “People underestimate me, but actually I was an FBI hostage negotiator,” adding another unexpected layer to her role.
The trailer also features classic family bonding moments gone wrong, including a group bike ride in matching outfits that ends with Grande’s character taking a fall, continuing the franchise’s tradition of physical comedy.
Inside Ariana Grande’s Experience Filming the Movie
Grande has already opened up about her experience working on “Focker In-Law,” calling it a standout moment in her career. In a November 2025 interview, she revealed that her character is a triathlete and described the role as physically demanding, sharing that there is “a lot of biking in this movie,” per People.
She also gave a behind-the-scenes look at filming, saying, “I spent yesterday doing burpees and high knees with Robert De Niro,” adding that the experience felt “really special” and even comparing the set to “the Avengers.”
The excitement around the project extends beyond the trailer. Grande previously reflected on her time filming in a social media post, writing, “these past few months have been so, so unimaginably special. i love my Fockers, and i love my Byrnes… so, so very much ♡ i will miss this bunch terribly. see you next november ! ♡.”
As the franchise introduces a new generation while bringing back familiar faces, “Focker In-Law” sets up a fresh chapter filled with new dynamics and returning chaos. As Grande put it, the experience has already been “a dream come true.”
