The Top 4 on “The Voice” season 29 were announced last night. We have the final night of the Voice Finale tonight on NBC. It all ends with the winner of “The Voice” season 29 being crowned. Lucas West is one of those artists in the Top 4, as he is happy to be representing Team Legend in the finale. The 20-year-old singer from New York is hoping to give his coach, John Legend, his second win as a coach.
Here are five fast facts you need to know about Lucas, who is hoping to be named the winner of “The Voice” season 29 tonight.
1. He’s a 20-Year-Old Musician From New York
West is originally from Fairport, New York. He graduated from Fairport Central School District in 2022. Currently, he is a senior at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
West has been working on developing his sound while in New York. He had gained local recognition before he took on “The Voice” stage.
2. West Grew Up Listening to Legend
During his Blind Audition, West sang “Bennie And The Jets” by Elton John. He got John and Adam to hit their button for him. They both fought hard for him, but Lucas ended up picking to join Team Legend.
West said he chose to join Team Legend because he grew up listening to Legend with his mom. He appreciated that they were both pianists as well as singers.
3. More Than Just a Singer
While West mentioned he appreciated that he and Legend were both pianists and singers, it looks like West has more ammo in his repertoire. Besides his amazing vocals, he is also a trained musician who plays piano and trombone.
In addition, Lucas has studied jazz and pursued music academically. This can be seen with his control, phrasing, and musical versatility during his performances on “The Voice” season 29.
4. National Anthem Singer
As mentioned above, Lucas has been working to gain some local recognition before hitting the big stage on “The Voice.” One way he has done that is by singing the national anthem.
West has twice sung the national anthem at Buffalo Bills games. The first time was during a regular-season game in November 2023. He then sang it again during a playoff game at Highmark Stadium between the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens in January 2025.
5. Getting Praise From His Hero
During his Knockout Round performance, Lucas sang “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel. Of course, Lucas sat down at the piano for this performance. Not only did Lucas win the round, but he also happened to get a shoutout from Billy Joel.
In a Facebook post, Joel wrote, “From the big city to the Voice stage, Lucas West brings us that New York State of Mind! -Team Joel.”
Lucas has said that Joel is one of his biggest inspirations. He reacted to the post writing, “Billy Joel. My hero of heroes. Just reposted my performance. Wow, dreams come true.”
