Nick Jonas shared a heartfelt message to his late “sister” Maya Kibbel weeks after her passing.
“I reached for my phone to call you so many times today, because for as long as I can remember, this has been your day. Your birthday — April 3rd, seared in my memory,” the former “The Voice” coach shared via his Instagram Story on Friday, April 3.
Nick continued, over a throwback photo from their childhood, “I will cherish the time god gave us together forever. Please be at peace in heaven now, and blow out your candles with the angels. You are and always will be my sister. I miss you so much. Happy birthday Maya.”
Maya Kibbel’s Tragic Passing
Maya passed away on March 7 after a battle with Wilson’s disease, her mother confirmed with a statement shared via Instagram.
“It is with great sorrow that I have to post this sad news. Maya had been suffering from a rare disease called Wilson’s disease. She fought hard but her body gave out,” Kiyoko Kibbel shared at the time. “Early on 3/7, she collapsed and her heart and lungs stopped working. It was too late and she passed away in the ER.”
Kibbel continued, “She had suffered so much that often she would cry herself to sleep due to her pain. But now she has entered into Heaven where she can be with her daddy with no more pain or tears.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, Wilson’s Disease “is a rare inherited condition that causes copper to build up in the body, especially in the liver, brain and eyes.”
“Those of you who knew her and can’t believe she is gone, please know she is in the best place ever! I know she is watching over all of you from up above,” Maya’s mother continued. “Thank you to all those who loved and cared for her while she was still here. As her mom of 30 years, I miss her terribly and am heartbroken. My comfort is knowing she is no longer suffering. Love and prayers to you all!”
