Riley Green Hilariously Reveals Why He Attended the ACM Awards Without a Date

Country singer Riley Green was recently announced as a brand new coach for “The Voice” season 30. The epic season will also see Queen Latifah making her coaching debut as the two join veterans Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine.

Green, who has been having a standout career in country music, attended the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, May 17, where he was nominated for four awards. But fans wondered why the “Worst Way” singer decided to attend the award show without a date.

Riley Green decided to go solo for this year’s ACM Awards, hoping that a certain host would take notice.

While speaking to Extra TV, Green was asked if he had brought a date to the award show, to which he replied, “No.” He then jokingly added, “Well, Shania Twain’s here, so I’m not bringing a date to this.”

Twain made her debut as the host of the ACM Awards, but before stepping into her hosting duties, the 60-year-old made a bold statement on the carpet in a sparkling silver dress featuring a black panther print. She completed the look with black leather studded gloves and debuted fresh bangs.

Twain has been married to her husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, since 2011, which means that Green unfortunately didn’t score a date with the country icon. Still, he praised her as well as other female country acts for their remarkable success.

“The level of stardom that she got to… and you know, it’s tough for a female artist. You got all these guy country singers out there, and for her to get to the place she was…,” he began. “There’s not a lot of larger-than-life figures. Dolly [Parton], Reba [McEntire], Shania’s up there with them.”

He added, “So it’s awesome that she’s here to be a part of this and we can kind of re-share some of that with the younger generation that’s watching.”

Green Took Home the Award for Music Event of the Year at the ACM Awards

Green was nominated for four ACM Awards this year, including Male Artist of the Year. Although that award went to Cody Johnson, Green didn’t leave empty-handed.

Green took home the award for Music Event of the Year, which recognizes a collaboration of two or more artists. Green worked alongside Ella Langley for the hit song, “Don’t Mind If I Do.” During their acceptance speech, Green shared, “I want to start by thanking my very lovely duet partner, Miss Ella Langley, for being part of this song.”

Speaking about the making of the song and their collaborative efforts, he added, “I was in a green room in Fayetteville, Arkansas, sitting by myself when I wrote this song, and I knew there was something special about it. We already had another big hit together, ‘You Look Like You Love Me,’ and I thought I needed to find somebody to do this song with me, and I called Ella in Nashville, Tennessee, at the studio, and she showed up in her pajamas and sang what you hear on the track.”

It was the duo’s second consecutive win in the category, winning the award in 2025 for Langley’s song, “You Look Like You Love Me.”
