The new fall TV season is right around the corner, and The CW has just announced its upcoming premiere dates for a returning favorite and a new arrival — both of which hail from Canada.
Returning to The CW’s fall lineup is “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent,” back with a second season of procedural crime drama.
Also joining The CW is a brand-new series, “Private Eyes West Coast,” a new spin on a long-running Canadian hit featuring a fan favorite star of “Beverly Hills, 90120.”
‘Private Eyes West Coast’
Coming from the executive producers of the hit CW series “Wild Cards,” “Private Eyes West Coast” is a spinoff of “Private Eyes,” a popular Canadian series that ran for five seasons there. The series proved to be a success story that was licenced in more than 180 territories worldwide, and can currently be streamed on Hallmark Channel‘s streaming service, Hallmark+.
Stars Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson return to reprise their roles as, respectively, former hockey player-turned sleuth Matt Shade and private investigator Angie Everett. While the original series was set in Toronto, the new spinoff follows the pair to their new home in Victoria, situated on Canada’s Vancouver Island.
“Blending heart, humor, romance and mystery, ‘Private Eyes West Coast’ captures all the fun, charm and adventure that made the original series a global hit while giving audiences something fresh to experience as Angie and Shade navigate a new chapter in their lives together,” notes a CW press release.
Murder on the West Coast
In the 10-episode first season, Shade and Angie have left behind their P.I. firm and settled into a new life on Canada’s west coast.
The quiet life they were expecting, however, takes a left turn when a night out lands them smack dab in the middle of a murder scene.
“A woman stands over her dead boyfriend with a bloody steak knife in hand,” reads the press release.
“Believing in her innocence, Shade and Angie dive headfirst back into the high-stakes world of investigation,” the release continues. “The private eyes juggle the challenges of opening a P.I. firm in a new city, and without their friendly Toronto network of sources, Shade and Angie work to build a new community. From tracking down a missing student in the wilderness of British Columbia to extracting a murder confession from a surfer in Tofino, Shade and Angie prove life on the west coast is packed with heart-pounding thrills.”
‘Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent’ Season 2
Making its CW debut last year, this Canadian spinoff of the long-running procedural crime franchise is bowing in with a second season.
Once again, the series focuses on Toronto’s brightest detective duo, Detective Sergeants Henry Graff (Aden Young) and Frankie Bateman (Kathleen Munroe).
These two, per the press release, “see clues others may have missed and always solve even the toughest of cases using their own unique set of investigative skills. With the help of the Specialized Criminal Investigations Unit—their boss, Inspector Vivienne Holness (Karen Robinson), Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester (K.C. Collins), pathologist Dr. Lucy Da Silva (Nicola Correia-Damude), and tech expert, Mark Yohannes (Araya Mengesha)—Graff and Bateman tackle the most high-profile homicides in the city inspired by some of Canada’s most infamous headlines, exploring the complexities of family, love, money, and power in Toronto.”
Both “Private Eyes West Coast” and the new season of “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” will debut Monday, October 5 on The CW.
