Brittany Cartwright is reflecting on a difficult period in her relationship with former boyfriend Brandon Hanson.
During the June 3 episode of “The Valley,” Cartwright revealed that Hanson’s actions while she recovered from cosmetic surgery contributed to growing doubts about their future together. The Bravo star said she felt she was asking for very little while recovering from her procedures, but she was disappointed by how events unfolded.
The revelation came as viewers watched Cartwright navigate both her recovery and her long-distance relationship, which eventually ended.
Brittany Cartwright Reveals Why Brandon Hanson Gave Her ‘The Ick’
While speaking in a confessional on “The Valley,” Cartwright explained that Hanson had planned to travel nearly 200 miles from Paso Robles, California, to help care for her after surgery.
However, she said his repeated delays and failure to pick up her prescription medication left her frustrated.
“I just feel like that I asked the bare minimum of Brandon,” Cartwright said. “And since he had taken off work — which I cannot believe I did this — but he asked if I could give him some money. I was like, ‘You know what? You’re gonna come and take care of me, so I don’t care to give you some money.'”
She then shared what happened next.
“But then he kept, like, delaying the days and didn’t even get the pain medication. He bought me flowers with the money I gave him. The icks are piling on.”
Later in the episode, Cartwright discussed the situation with Kristen Doute and explained how difficult recovery had been.
“I could not make it all throughout the night” without her prescription refill, she said.
She added that the delays only increased her frustration.
“It’s kind of annoying me that he kept pressing it back. I think that’s why I got annoyed because I’m like, wait a second … It’s hard. Long distance is hard.”
The ‘Vanderpump Rules’ Alum Explains Why She Gave Hanson Money
Cartwright expanded on the situation during “The Valley After Show,” explaining why she agreed to help Hanson financially in the first place.
“I never put myself first,” she said. “That moment, that fresh out of that surgery, would be, like, one of the only times I actually would be like, ‘You have to take care of me.'”
She also noted that there were other ways Hanson could have handled the medication issue.
“You can call an Uber and, like, go pick [the medication] up, you know, especially if I gave you funds.”
According to Cartwright, her decision stemmed from her desire to help others.
“I’m in the position where I can be like, ‘OK, I will, like, pay you for you coming to help me and take care of me because I don’t want your kids to ever, like, need anything or suffer from any of that loss,'” she explained.
“That’s just who I am. I’m just somebody who wants to take care of people, and I don’t think that’s gonna change about me.”
She added, “I don’t care if a guy has money. Like, that’s not something that … It’s sexy, obviously, but I’m super independent and I always have been.”
Brittany Cartwright Says She Learned From the Breakup & Gives Update on Cruz
As viewers now know, Cartwright and Hanson eventually ended their relationship. She previously cited the challenges of long distance as a major factor.
Despite the breakup, Cartwright told People in May 2026 that she and Hanson remain on good terms.
“You live and you learn. I was just having fun at the time,” she said.
“The way I handled [the breakup] was great, and I just feel like I’ve learned so much from my past relationships that it was just easy to navigate and [be] like, ‘Okay, this isn’t what I need right now.'”
While her dating life has changed, Cartwright said her focus remains on her son, Cruz Cauchi, whom she shares with ex-husband Jax Taylor.
On June 1, Cartwright shared photos of herself and Cruz on Instagram and captioned the post, “Hearts so full.”
Doute commented on the post, writing, “Loveee these pics!! Cruzy was soooo cute and excited, my heart is exploding.”
Cartwright also recently opened up about motherhood on her podcast, “When Reality Hits.”
“Cruz is such a happy boy. He is wonderful and thriving, and he is my superstar, my everything. I’m so proud of him every single day,” she said.
She added that she remains open to whatever the future may bring.
“I love being a mother. It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. And it makes me the happiest,” Cartwright said. “I would rather be with my son and just be with him watching movies on the couch than going out or doing something like that. And that’s what we do. He is my little best friend… So who knows what the future would bring.”
