Cheryl Burke Dishes on Career Transition After Leaving ‘Dancing With the Stars’

A professional dance career isn’t for the faint of heart. Former “Dancing With the Stars” pro Cheryl Burke dedicated years of her life to the long-running competition show. But after retiring at the end of season 31, she knew it was time to explore a new chapter.

Today, Cheryl Burke is in a completely different line of work, but she couldn’t be happier about the change.

Cheryl Burke Shifted to the World of Beauty Products

Many “Dancing With the Stars” pros have entrepreneurial endeavors. Lindsay Arnold founded The Movement Club, while Peta Murgatroyd has Peta Jane Beauty.

Now, Cheryl Burke is following in their footsteps and focusing on her own business ventures.

“I am now actually into the beauty space,” Burke shared with PEOPLE, noting that dance doesn’t really play an active role in her life right now. “I’m still figuring life out, and the transition has been different for me, but it’s also been really fun doing new things.”

Shortly after leaving DWTS, Cheryl Burke focused on podcasting. But she’s always eager to follow her latest passions.

“I have always had a passion for beauty,” the 42-year-old added. “All the glam that we use — we are honestly so privileged to have amazing makeup artists.”

While she’s always loved makeup, she knows she wasn’t always using it for the right reasons. During her time on DWTS, Cheryl Burke admitted that she used makeup to hide. She’s since shifted her mindset.

“Now I’m discovering who I am underneath it all and really trying to enhance my beauty instead of hide it. It’s been an interesting journey and lots of learning new things and figuring out who I really am underneath it all,” Burke shared.

Today, she’s incredibly proud of her journey and can explore the fun side of makeup.

“I’m so used to illusions — how do I make my lips bigger, how do I make my cheekbones stand out more, especially when you’re doing stage makeup,” the former DWTS pro told PEOPLE. “Now it’s about embracing what I was given, with a couple of eyelashes still.”

The Former DWTS Pro Won’t Tolerate Criticism on Her Appearance

Over her lengthy career as a professional dancer, Cheryl Burke put up with endless harsh critique about her looks. Now, she’s putting her foot down and standing up for herself.

In an Instagram video, Burke shut down the negativity.

“Apparently I ‘draw my eyebrows down to my cheeks,'” the former DWTS pro captioned the video. “No — my temples are naturally more hollow, and yes, I’m aware of it. Whether I choose filler or not is a personal decision. In the meantime, let’s spend less time analyzing faces and more time building something meaningful.”

Many fans rallied around the dancer.

“It amazes me how many people think it’s ok to bully and verbally abuse people! You are perfect just the way you are ❤️” one kind Instagram user wrote.

Fans wish Cheryl Burke all the best and can’t wait to see where this chapter of life takes her.
