Academy Award-winning actress Anne Hathaway wowed the crowds at the 2026 Met Gala in a truly unique dress.
Hathaway, 43, wore a custom Michael Kors Collection number that was inspired by a very famous poem (per Vogue).
The theme of the event — which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 4 — was “Costume Art,” with the dress code being “fashion is art.” Hathaway certainly got the memo in that regard.
‘Ode on a Grecian Urn’ Inspired Anne Hathaway’s Dress
GettyThe custom Michael Kors Collection dress worn by Anne Hathaway at the 2026 Met Gala was designed in collaboration with the prominent American visual artist Peter McGough (who happens to be a close friend of Kors).
A strapless black Mikado silk ball gown, its features included a plunging neckline and high-leg slit. It provided the perfect canvas for some beautiful and intricate hand-painting work by McGough.
The inspiration for the dress artwork was John Keats’ 1819 poem, “Ode on a Grecian Urn.”
Describing the thought process behind the design, Kors told Vogue, “We used ‘Ode on a Grecian Urn’ by John Keats as a starting point. We loved collaborating with Anne to tell a story that is as old as time: a wish for peace, beauty, and harmony.”
McGough had his say, too. He told the publication, “This dress, to me, is about the goddess of a Grecian urn, and what I love about the dress is that it turns the person into an object of art. It’s moving art — fashion and art, they go together for me: Fashion is wearable art.”
Per LitCharts, “Ode on a Grecian Urn” is “a complex meditation on mortality.”
Of the poem, the respected literature guide describes it thusly: “Death preoccupies the speaker, who responds by seeming to both celebrate and dread the fleeting nature of life. The scenes on the urn depict a Classical world that has long since passed—and yet, in being fixed on the urn itself, these scenes also evoke a sense of immortality.”
Hathaway Posed With Michael Kors at the Met Gala
GettyIn addition to posing for several photographs alone at the 2026 Met Gala, Anne Hathaway took the time to pose with one of the men responsible for her beautiful dress.
Indeed, several photographs of Hathaway also featured American fashion designer Michael Kors. The New York native looked fantastic in a classic black suit, black bow tie, black shoes, and dark shades.
The duo embraced, with Kors placing his hand on Hathaway’s waist, and the actress resting her hand on his chest.

She’ll appear in Christopher Nolan’s epic fantasy action movie “The Odyssey.” She’ll star in the intriguing sci-fi survival film “The End of Oak Street.” Additionally, Hathaway will star in and produce the erotic psychological thriller “Verity.” There’s a lot more in the pipeline for her, too.
